Its actually really annoying me now that my bike doesn't have spools/bobbins for paddock stands. I have to use the shitty L brackets which have started scratching the swingarm and they're just a pain in the ass. The paddock stand I got is too small, but it will be big enough if I had bobbins... Any idea if I can tap the swingarm to fit them? In my mind its a hollow swingarm...so probably can't be done? Maybe some of you have more experience though. I've seen the aftermarket T-REX adaptor things but they look shit lol. Any ideas?
These are what you need. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-DR...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item35d681801d Some threaded bar and they will fit anything. Your bike is a bit heavier than a 125 so I wouldn't recommend drilling the swing arm as there may as the wall section could be a bit thin.
If it's a hollow arm and the wall thickness is a bit thin (yamaha. . .) can't you remove the chain adjuster from the end of the arm to gain access and use a nice large washer and a nut inside the arm? Access might be tricky but not impossible. Failing that you could drill and tap an alloy block and slide that into the arm for your bobbin to screw into and spread the load a little. If that won't work I'll give you £5 for that new stand. . . .
Not possible on my bike XJ6N has the most unusual swing arm lol - it would be nice though. I think the swingarm is too thin to try anything like that. Taking out the chain adjusters to see, and the swingarm is really thin. I wouldn't trust the bikes weight on it like Doof said. Sold the stand for £30 haha, gonna get a new one ASAP. Not sure what to do now. What you've said would probably work but seems messy. I could buy a smashed swingarm from something else - grind off the bobbin-mounts, have them welded to mine, and then get it powder-coated. Probably £100 all in. Oh add some for bearings. Actually starting to think it might be worth it lol.
If your not bothered about a bit of weld on your swing arm then I would just get a 6mm nut welded on either side , tig welded by the way much neater, doing it this way would be plenty strong enough , drill the holes m5 in position first run a 6mm tap through it even thou their will not be much thread then use a 6mm caphead bolt put the 6mm nut onto that then screw the 6mm bolt with the nut on it into the 6mm tapped hole you have just drilled and tapped so the nut is screwed up to the swing arm nice and firm , not to tight or you will just strip the thread you just tapped , then get it welded, job done.
