Get a sunny day next week and we head down there? Been loads of times its easy. Down past bala toward Dolgellau and then stop off in a little car park and hike up the hill
Deal If i had the cash would go tomorrow... will have to be probs after the Egg Run now maybe... see how the cash flow is
No planes flying at weekend anyway No rush. They fly pretty much every week day (and some weekends) through spring/summer/autumn so loooooads of time.
Yeah doesnt look like there is any weekend at the min.. if anything will be the week after the egg run.. just need to see what days im free etc..
WOW ...top post that ...im defo wanting to see these ....how do you know when the planes will be flying ? surely there not out every day ?
I'm going to do that route tomorrow.......Mold, Ruthin, Bala. Dolgellau then take the Tywyn road for a 35 mile detour which takes you back to Dolgellau then on through Ffestiniog, Betys then back down the A5 past the Rhug and home. It's a fantastic route 250 miles'ish.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/operational-low-flying-training-timetable Thats a timetable of when they're out and where... Looks like weekdays and between 11am - 3pm mainly... nice early ride down there, take a few buttys, camera packed and wait
Looks great @zippie01 was only telling me about this place then other week.. I'll tag along if I'm off work when you go
The pass is the B4405 as Bloke said. Jets are nothing, I get C130's flying below the house, Merlins shoot through the gap in the hill, and Squirrel Helicopters popping up from behind trees. It always amazes me when a C130 drops down to 150ft in the valley and you can still hear it but but all you can see is the exhaust. All sorts come through here.
I was sat outside on a bench at King Arthurs labyrinth in Corris with a ham sandwich about 1:30 today and one of those flew so close over my head that i could see the rivets on the wings.......Impressive. Giz a shout when you go spotting, would like to tag along if you don't mind.
That link is not much use at all as it only lists the times the small 'Tactical Training Areas' are active.
Oh and I haven't read the thread but I already know your on about the Mach Loop, there's numerous places to see the aircraft from being Cad West, Cad East, Bwlch etc. There's days where nothing will be seen also known as Blanks, but there is also days where you will see the C-130 Hercules, Typhoon's, Hawks, Tornado's and Occasionally the Red Arrows. From the posts on another forum I use they can be through as early as 8:30am
