Hi. Unfortunately I have had to give up my driving licence for a year due to having my second epileptic fit last friday! I think I am going to sell my bike but before I put an add anywhere (inc on here) I was going to ask for some storage advice as I may consider that. I have a Suzuki GS500E; are these easy to store? Can a bike be but to rest for a year and be ok? What would I need to do? Thanks for your help James.
Thats a shame mate - yes you should be able to store your bike ok, just give all the metal work a coating of wd40 every now and then, fit a trickle charger to keep the battery topped up,turn the wheels every now and then to stop getting flats spots and keep the tyre pressures checked - start her up and run her at times to get the oil warmed up and moving around the engine - might be worth putting a fuel additive in the tank as fuel can sometimes turn to jelly if left too long. Hope this helps a bit and that you are back on the road again soon
Jesus so sorry to hear that, recently happened to my friend this and she cant drive so shes sold the clio. Have you got some where to store the bike?
id say... empty the fuel from the tank into a can. Take the connectors off the battery purchase front and back paddock stands and keep the bike on them. oil should be ok as the engine will be pretty much sealed. cover the frame/metal with wd40 (as above) or some minor parts with clear laquer. see if a neighbor will rent a secure garage cheap? Sorry to hear about this too, its not nice but better safe eh. Keep your chin up and hopefully you will have a good year and be back on the bike in no time!
Thanks for your comments and advice. Yes I have got secure storage so that is not a problem if im honest; its just storing it that I needed some help on and what everyone has said is certainly good advice so thanks. Im still un-decided what to do regarding the bike but I may end up selling because I can save some extra money over the next year and then get something bigger and better. Thanks. James
Sorry to hear that mate. My mum had her liscence taken off her for the same reason, but shes got hers back now.
Gutted for you mate As everyone's already said, lubricate it fully and ensure you start it every now and again and move it around. Hope you're able to ride again quickly
Bike is for sale on here now and will soon be on ebay also. Will wait a year and then maybe get something abit different.
i would say get rid, cut your losses and keep the money aside to get a newer one at time you need it, the bike will only depreciate while stood about plus you will be spending money on it to keep it
Least you missed out on owning a GS500E, I've got one that I'm not using in my back garden and it's the biggest piece of shit I've ever ridden, almost put me off of biking. Good luck for the future anyhow. T
