    Hi All

My new bike is a ZX-6R 1999 G2. The speedo does not work therefore its last MOT's say 18,000 miles and never increases.

My first test was the speedo cable, however I cannot find one! Also can't see the speedo cable mechanism where it would plug into. Am I missing something?

However I did notice this, which looks like a magnet for an after market clock?? Any ideas?

Ah Right OK thanks, will keep that diagram cheers. So should I be looking for a unit on the inside of the forks that picks up the magnet then?

Yes mate, should have some wires coming from it too.

Follow them and find the break.

The speedo pickup isnt from the front wheel on your bike.
It comes from the front sprocket for the drive chain.
You should see a sensor on the sprocket cover.
That magnet thats been stuck on the disk looks like someone has indeed fitted an aftermarket speedo due to the original one not working.
    They probably kept it.

As Lee says pick up is on the sprocket cover. It's and electronic system so no drive cable.

It could be that in the past a chain has let go and wrecked the pick up.

    Cheers for your responses.

Indeed found the sensor on the sprocket cover:

Looked inside and no obvious damage to the magnet:

However should the sprocket itself have a magnet on or something to count the revolutions??

    That looks ok.
If I remember correctly the sensor picks up on the corners of the square nut holding the sprocket on.
You may need to check the wiring back to the clocks.
    Possible they are faulty.

Also check the resistance across the pick up.

Cheers. How would I go about doing this. Checked wiring and can't see any problems. Had clocks off and nothing obvious. Everything looks to be in order.
