Ok, just a question. If Scotland do decide to leave the GB, will we have to have a new flag?? Is it going to make a lot of difference to the UK if Scotland do leave and will we have to take our passports when visiting?
Well the national debt would go down straight away but I think the jocks might be making a big mistake. Can they actually back up what they say on the yes campaign? All reminds me of the crap spouted about how good the euro would be and look how that turned out. As for North Sea oil bank rolling Scotland how long can that last?
We already have a flag, the St. Georges cross. We will need passports yes, a lot of people don't seem to umderstand this, but Eu travel is not restriced within its member states. Scotland will not become a member state until it can prove its worth as a country. The Eu will not allow an un-manned border with a non member state. This would change when membership status is given. Oil is the main scottish revenue earner. As chris says, what happens when that runs out? They have no major exports bar scotch, and savings will all be hoarded in England as people will worry about the currency change. Also, workers. What of those that live in scotland and work across the borders? It's going to make life very hard.
Oh dear. Try looking at the better together and yes sites on FB. Obviously both sides are producing a lot of crap. I obviously am a yes but more on the grounds of self determination and getting away from Westminster. As to economy there's more to Scotland than Oil and Scotch Whisky. Or are you saying that Westminster only want us to stay so that they can continue to waste the oil revinue on tax cut/incentives for their pals and to house their nuclear arsenal next to Scotland's second city.
At the end of the day it's down to Scottish people to vote not us down here. My dad is a jock and he would vote yes
I did post this in the 'off topic' part of the bike forum, so feel this is the right place for this question, but also I wanted to ask it coz... 1) I was thinking of doing three weeks in Scotland next year (camping), but heard that some places are already making it known they will not welcome British tourists, and... 2) as its looks a pretty good place to go, and ride, I would like to know how the referendum will affect me as a bike rider and what sort of things I could expect. People on this forum are pretty well tuned in and knowledgeable so why not ask here? I have always loved going to Scotland just feel a bit confused as to why now the decision?
Sod 'em. It won't happen, Scotland would loose far too much. IMO this is just a campaign to give people reason to complain. Nothing about the great independence. All politicians are corrupt twisted bastards and moving from London to a new Scottish government would make sod all difference.
Who gives a fook other than the jocks what happens? Will it affect my life? Hardly. Leave um to it I say.
Keith I would be very surprised if you were not made as welcome as before. There will always be idiots (both north and south of the border) who spout off racist crap. Most Scots don't think that way at all. As to why the decision now recent political events and not so recent have been building up to this for years. If it had been addressed when devolution was granted this referendum may not have happened. Scottish Nationalism has been growing for many years. As a child I used to wonder what it would be like to be truly a nation and I don't think I'm the only Scot that has wondered that. IMV it is only a matter of time till it happened. It's happened a lot sooner than I thought it would as I didn't think it would happen in my life time.
Too much pressure on me now Carl. A couple of points though, as for Scotland not wanting tourists, that's rubbish, I think one of their main problems will be losing a decent chunk of their financial centre, tourism is one of their biggest industries now and they'll be relying on it and promoting it more than before. Passports, almost no chance they'll be needed, the plan as I understand is to become part of a "Common Travel Area" exactly the same as travelling to Eire, the IOM or the Channel Islands. If Scotland insist on border control they're shooting themselves in the foot England I know won't ask for any control.
The single best comment that could be made on this thread. Nothing will change for the better for anyone. Politicians line their own pockets before they think of the people, the same is true from Britain to Bulgaria.
All they will achieve is swapping westminster robbing tossers for scottish robbing tossers fook all will change for joe public
People need to get out on there bikes more instead of talking politics, if we can get rid of Andy Murray all the better and send all the immigrants north of the border too
I think its great that this referendum has come about. I hope the yes vote goes through and scotland do fine on their own. For anyone to say "fuck this, we can do better on our own" deserves some respect.
Given the chance how many people would come out of Europe! Same thing really. I don't blame them I think our relationship will be better. You go to southern ireland now it's really nice.
