200 miles a day what will you do all afternoon ?????

Sue 400 miles at a nice steady pace is very very very easy this should take no more than 3 days ro complete. B & B is the best way to go so you carry a minumum amount of kit, but Im very interested and you could make it better because you have the ride down to lands end & then the ride back from john ogroats maybe 5 days in total it would be a great trip and one ive wanted to do for ages

Basically to do LE JOG, you'll do the route twice, home to LE and then JOG to home.

Bike magazine did the Bike8, which is going to be a similar distance, but without covering the same ground twice.

Daz i really don't think i could do 400 miles in a day on my bike...the idea is a relaxed pace...i was thinking 5 days lol

Well was exagerating but even at a relaxed pace you will cover 300 miles peice of piss 6 hours averaging 40mph is 240 miles and your gonna prob do at least 8 hours a day so 5 days is about correct as you have to get to lands end and get back from jockland

Lands End to John 'O Groats sound like quite a boring ride. I've always thought a 'coastal' ride (ride the nearest A road to the coast) far more interesting. This would take in the west coast of Scotland which is spectacular for riding. 400 miles a day is still quite ambitious if you're gonna do it day after day. A leisurely pace would be about 300-350.

B&Bs sounds good but you lot wouldn't get any sleep anyway, you'd be giggling all night...:p

Something like this sounds good to me as well. And May is a good time to do it I think. I can't do May day weekend as I'm on call then,

Happy to do anything. 300 miles a day isn't as bad as it sounds. Especially as some bikes need to fill up every 90-100 miles so plenty of pit stops and with leg stretches/ fag breaks it should be a cake walk. I do more like 400 miles most times I go to the lakes or Wales for a ride.

Happy to day a scotland - cornwall thingy or a figure of 8 doofer.

I don't even mind being seen riding on public roads with you bunch of arseholes.

(Please note:- No discrimination made towards individuals or groups on basis of cread/ colour/ religion / sexual orientation or football affiliation or for even being Northern twats.) :)

It is 874 miles, but you have to get to the start and home from the finish which is the same again. so that is 1800 miles or 180 litres of fuel. £1.40 a gallon is £270 quid in fuel and oils just to get started.

Couple of years back I led a run to Moffatt for the weekend.
On the run was a seasoned Iron Butt rider who does the 24 hr 1000 mile butt run with ease each year. He has donw 4000 mile treks across Europe in very short times. Bacically he is a motorway mile eater. He is now one of there officials.
He has a blog and wrote of this run. Here is the link where I am known as Shafter (due to my preference of final drive):-

On low roads 200 miles can be a full day especially is you are breaking camp in the morning and pitching again in the evenings.
That said 1800 miles at 200 a day is 8 nights and 9 days.

8 nights at £50/day (camping charges, ingredients for cooking and brewing and a good meal bought out at some point in the day).
Guest-housing is gonna be more expensive as I am sure you'd realise.
Mixing the for me personallty does not work as carrying a tent all day to unload it in the evening and reload it in the morning unused is just the pits. I now only camp is I am planning to use a site for at least two nights, but that's my choice.

Personnally, I already have a riding trip to Germany booked and her in doors would go loony if I were to do this too (and probably quite justified to too).

Sorry if I come over as a know it all, but Sue did ask for thoughts/advice.

+1 on this, I also think a ride around the coastal roads of Scotland would be much more interesting, what ever route is picked if the dates suite me I'd be up for it.

Sue ive been to lands end and john o groats but not on the same trip.

take as much time as you need. DONT try to rush it. Its and experience and you need to savour it and take in the backdrops. In the scottish Highlands ,i can plan you an amazing route up or down the West coast, wher you will see Whales in the Bays, Golden eagles flying above, snow on Ben Nevis !!!yes even in May and June, etc etc ...you wont see any of this at fast_ish speeds. So take your time and plan properly .

If you need any planning help ,esp around the highland section, just ask xx

Great to see you riding further than the Thelwall Viaduct for a change
