Ok... Think ma RS has found his self destruct button !! That or he was just cold lol

He warmed up fine... set off, no probs !! After about 10 mins of riding, my revs started climbing ( i was stationary at lights at this point with my hand off the throttle !! )

Set off in first ( bit jumpy but the revs settled )

Bit further down the rd had to stop at junction.... Revs climbed fast, ended up hitting the kill switch before he redlined...

reset the kill switch and he started automatically ???? revs climbing again :S no throttle applied

Ended up turnin round so i had a straight run and stalled him in 4 / 5 gear ( intentionally ) several times
before the revs finally stopped climbing themselves !!

Is this mechanical ?? or did ma throttle just freeze open ?? I know temps where below zero this mornin, so if it froze how can i stop him from freezin up again ??

    TIA

It is really icy today, I'd say its just that the cable was frozen and the throttle was staying open, I had this problem with my Mito in December when it was icy.

Not sure if thats right, just my 2p.

It doesn't sit at 3k revs at the traffic lights does it?

nope... when running normally its around 1500 when idle... tho i have noticed occasionally it will stick at 3k, but not very often ???

Today every time i stopped it just kept climbing till red line (11k) where ive hit the kill switch as i dont want it to burn out... As soon as the kill switch deactivated it's straight to red line again :|

As said, sounds like an air leak to me.

PV wont make it climb and id like to think you would notice if your throttle is wide open.

I have consulted Himself who knows about stuff like this (he is a qualified Aprillia mech) and he says frozen throttle cable too, he reckons you've probably got water in there at some point (like all the rain recently) and this is what's freezing.

He says a good squirt of WD40 or oil down the cable (pre-warm the cable) should sort it, or even better if you can get the cable out of the carburettor , put some rubber fuel pipe over the end of the cable, fill with WD40 or thin 2-stroke oil, connect to an airline or bicycle pump and blow air in til you see the oil come out at the throttel grip.

He says try not to ride it when it's like this as he has had 3 in with snapped throttle cables this week already...........

Simple way to check it is the throttle.

Open the throttle wide open. If it springs back its not frozen. If it sticks it is

Devil... f your comin the scotch tonight...
Ill bring some visor wax stuff i got at the NEC,
Its special wax that you apply to the visor and it stops it misting/steaming and freezing up.
Works really well, ill give your visor a coat in it if you like.
Either that or get a face guard thing to stop it misting etc..
    Ad.
