Regulator/rectifier

    I'm guessing my regulator/rectifier is goosed... My battery is melted out of shape and it's only a month old gutted...Im just asking if I'm on the right track thinking this.[​IMG]

    Could be either way, over charged & therefore over heated when running or you've a bad drain on it causing a rapid discharge.

    Or even the water inside has leaked out and the plates are now buckled to f@*k.

    Where did you get the battery from?? Did they fill it up or yourself? Checked the V output on the reg/rec yet?

    Got the battery from ledsons it was ready to use. I thought the regulator sorted the volts going back to the battery that's why I thought that was the problem.

    Agree with Rump, Had 2 reg/recs go in 2years (CBR600). 1st think old age and didnt renew heatsink compound when changing frame over. Second due to Duff battery (6 years old) Now carry spare (£17 on Ebay) and wired Computor fan to aid extra cooling. Both had failed on Rideouts(thing of the past) pain in the Arse, (not the rideouts) Ha.

    I charged my old battery up that I had taken off the bike and put it on the bike this morning plugged the reg/rec in and started the bike up.i checked the voltage going to the battery and it was nearly 18v so I'm guessing it is defo the reg/ rec...does it sound right ?

    yep its duff, usually around 14volts.

    It might be worth to upgrade your rectifier to a MOSFET type one from another bike. The rectifiers that the japs used on their late 90's and early 00's bike were know to be dodgy from the get go and your SV seems to have suffered the usual fate.

    Many people recommend those from later R1's, Fireblades or S1000RR's as decent replacements, basically anything that has a Shindengen one fitted. I replaced the duff one on my CB500 last year and it has been excellent and runs so much cooler than the old type and keeps the battery topped up nicely. I did have to mess about with the wiring and the connectors to and from the battery and generator but this was merely a formality considering the reliability over the old ones.

    I managed to drop on some reg/rec fairly cheap for the RVF when I had the same issue from Ebay. Bought 5 as they came from China (5 was still £50 than an updated 1 from Rick O)
    Anywho, fitted and made sure the frame was clean.... 2 years in and she's still running sweet as apparently. Had 4 spare up until a while ago.

    Have you managed to sort this yet?? As said above- easy to retro fit an R6 one
