You need to check the voltage at your battery with the engine running around 3K plus revs, anything over 14.5 volts and the reg/rec is likely to be cooked. remember though they do get a tad warm in normal use (hence the cooling fins) but worth checking the earth as well just in case as a bad ground will cause them to overheat.

OK, I have just been out in my despatch riders graveyard.
I have found a Suzuki Reg/Rec on a bike carcass that has been weathering for 1/2 a decade.
It worked when the crank seized.
I have had a quick go but the retaining screws are solid and will require impact driving or drilling off.
    I have not the time.
The access is poor as the bike sits and will require sometime to retrieve it to an accessible location.
You wanna come round tomorrow night and have a go, you're welcome.
I can make the tools available.
    No charge.

Electrickry is electrickry. They all work on a 3 wire coil producing around 60V ac unloaded. The reg rec only changes the Voltage from Ac t Dc and dumps any excess amps the to earth. Your issue will be mounting it and tying a Suzuki reg/rec into a Honda loom. 3 yellow, a live and neutral and maybe an earth. Used to do it a lot years ago.

my steelie's an f3 (1995) Conked on m6 about 18 monthes ago, Main fuse had blown and the reg/rec (original -no cooling fins) had burn hole in it. It was duff.Checked out everything as per manual, All ok, Earth, connections, alternator etc. I had changed frames and didn't refresh the Heat sink Paste, so this might not have helped. Fitted finned reg/rec off Ebay about £17. and a cooling fan care of Maplin. Lasted just over a year. Suspect it was overworking due to the Battery being 5 years old and knackered (not holding charge) Should have realised this when running with Headlights on, the battery was discharging. Fitted another off fleebay,£17.49 delivered everything ok, and now have another as a spare piggybacked next to it. Reference your manifold, if doing it yourself, Liberal coats of Plusgas every am and pm for a week and good fitting sockets. I snapped 3 of my studs, required Cobalt drills to get them out. 4 different sizes working upwards. good luck . pm if you need advice.

I have an original R/R from a 98 Firestorm. It's in perfect working order and worked fine for 15 years, but it's worth mentioning that they're prone to failure.

Could be a straight swap with the one on your CBR.

    update.
stripped off the rear fairing and got a voltage meter on the battery putting out around 14.5 at 5k so rec/reg seems to be working ok .so now im baffled the frame of bike is heating up and also the resevouir for the rear shock is gettimg hot can feel it through leathers .says on it do not heat .surely just the hot weather and the heat from theengine shouldnt be causing this .????
