I can see this thread becoming very racist.....

Interestingly if you burn a bible in the UK no action will be taken but burning the Quran is illegal in the UK

"A former soldier has been sentenced to 70 days in prison for setting fire to a copy of Muslim holy book the Koran in the centre of Carlisle."

The sentence would have been for the act of theft. You steal a bible and burn it. same outcome. Same offence.

No. Theft. Acted dishonestly ie stole the book. Then burned it thus permenantly depriving the owner of it. Theft by definition. I know these things.

Religiously aggravated harassment apparently there was a lesser theft charge he got 30 days concurrent sentence for.

Point is, the custodial sentence was not just for burning the book as was originally suggested by the headline.

Nope you can burn away in the privacy of your own home or with people it won't cause offence to

its about time someone amalgmated all this religious guff into one publication. They were all written thousands of years ago and are not wholly relevant anymore. It's a bit like trying to service your brand new BMW 1000rr with an old R80 workshop manual for reference. The basics will be the same but you'll be fooked when it gets tricky, leaving yourself reliant on various "know alls" interpretations.

Yes, it was a public order offence he was done for.

No. It was an offence of Racially Aggravated Harassment as you pointed out earlier. That is an offence under The Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
Public Order offences such as sections 1,2,3,4 & 5 come under The Public Order Act 1986.
