    So from this thread:
    http://www.northwestbikers.net/index.php?threads/front-brake-master-cylinder-pot-lever.19517/

I'm looking to replace the horrible master cylinder/front brake mechanism on my bike which is an ugly box, known to leak on 99% of bikes and just looks utter shit.

So, I'm looking on eBay for a suitable part and I've been looking at stuff like this:

    SV650 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-SV...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item4177175178

    R6 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-R6...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item41777f6c90

    ZXR400 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ZXR400-ZX...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item1c374f53ce

Now, will I have a problem using one of these on my bike?

My bike has 2 front calipers, I believe each has 2 pistons but can't remember without going to check.

Should I be looking for a master cylinder from a similar set-up or will pretty much any do?

if your going through the trouble of changing the master cylinder and calipers theres only one route to go,its got to be brembo..

I'm not changing calipers, just the master cylinder.

Right now it looks like this:

I want it to look like this:

Nothing special, just so it looks better.

Buying used - Probably from an R6 but really whatever is cheapest. Don't wanna go over £40.

any brake resovoir can be made to fit with very little fuss..

Sounds good. I'm just concerned a master cylinder for a smaller bike (with maybe 2 small pistons) may not be suitable to 'push' the brakes on a bigger bike (with say 4 big pistons).

Spoke to Petrolhead and he says any master cylinder will work. Problem solved I guess! :D

Umm, smaller piston calipers require less fluid to move the pistons.

So if you fit a master cylinder from this set up you may find the lever will travel further to do the same job.

This is starting to look expensive haha I'm concentrating on zx6/r6/triple now as they should be a similar setup...but shiiiiiit they're not cheap.

if that was the case there wouldn't be different sizes of m/c's

Looks good but now I have another hurdle...

the hoses on the XJ6 point forward, and the banjos on my hoses don't twist. So I've gotta find a master cylinder where the hose connection faces the front of the bike otherwise I'll have to twist the hose which nobody wants.

    Hmmm.
    Is it really worth it?

Yeah the one on there now looks like shit and it has all corroded around the edge where some fluid must have gotten out (3 year old bike so shouldn't be expected really). Gonna replace it with a good reliable pot (which looks better anyway) :D

Thing is I wanna fit it next weekend with the hoses so I need to find a master cylinder this week.

Also getting bar end mirrors and as the mirrors mount to the reservoir I'll have an empty thread on it.

Bikes have different master cylinders that are designed for the specific bike. Externally things may look similar, but the internals may be different, bore/stroke etc.
The callipers differ between bikes as well, 4pot callipers, 2pot sliding callipers that look like 4pots etc.

I'd be VERY cautious about swapping a master cylinder on it's own without checking if it's compatible with the callipers you've got.

Brakes aren't something you want to get wrong!!!

What you talking about? I can just put my foot on the rear wheel like when I had an old BMX :D

Nah but I agree, I won't be taking any chances or guess work, will speak to the guys in Wigan when it is in next week.

pretty sure on master cylinders they have a marking to indicate their "flow" rate.
some are the same some are different.
i was warned about this from a mechanic, that you can't just swap and change you need to make sure they match up.

it will be fine the pipes should fit on, they should twist slightly either way test the set up then buy some braided hoses fit for the purpose
