Hello guys, bike was running perfect, went away for 4 days, come back, the bike wont start via electric start. It tried to turn over, blah blah, charged the battery for a good 9 hours solid, so it was fully charged i guess, back in, turned the bike on via electric start, worked nicely for the first try,, but now, my solanoid makes a clicking sound, and it occasionally turns the bike over but not enough to start the bike, and there is a nasty eggy smell. For me to start the bike ive got to bump start it. Its been serviced and motd recently (maybe a week or so ago) and it passed everything. Its a Sinnis Stealth 125 2011 model. Any idea what could be the problem? All help is GREATLY appreciated, Thanks, Chris
the smell usually can be associated with burning wires, have you checked to make sure there are not that are frayed or anything.
No frayed wires im aware of. When they did service and mot they striped wires checked them all greased them and wrapped them back up. The smell only comes when the solanoid clicks
have you checked your regulator/rectifier? look at the wires coming from that mine burnt out last week
Where do I find this? Im not greatly bike literate. I wanted to open the starter motor to make sure iti doing what it should be, will anything fall out? cheers
Also if the wires were burning, the electricity would still flow? Correct me if im wrong. It doesnt make sense x
dont open the starter motor just yet the regulator/rectifier is a box 4 inch by 3 with fins on it, if i were you i' id get a jump start off a car if you can, if it starts its either your batterys knackered or the afore mentioned reg/rec is not charging your battery.
Have you reconnected the battery properly? If I don't re-attache the battery wires back properly the starter solioned makes a click and there sparks a bit of smoke coming from the battery terminals. Don't just assume you have go and cheek, and tighten the leads onto the battery terminal.
When you charged the battery, what charger did you use, bike specific or car charger? A car charger will charger at a higher amperage than a bike battery can handle, as a rule only charge at 10% of the battery amperage. The eggy smell is sulphur, your battery has sulfuric acid in it when it gets hot it gases off, this might give you a clue. You need to check the battery condition, recharge (using a bike charger). Check the voltage should be around 12.6 volts for a good battery, leave for a couple of hours then recheck the voltage.
Clicking usually screams battery. You may find its just fuck ed. They do die now and again fact of life. Try jumping it from a car if it fires straight away it's the battery not holding its charge.
Sounds like a buggered battery to me. http://www.battery2u.co.uk/exide-motorcycle-battery-yb9-b.aspx 23 quid, on the dock road in liverpool.
+1 on the battery, check the voltage at the battery of you can. If your unable to try to jump start it from a friends bike and if it's fires your battery is dead
