Righto Im organising another little jaunt over the water to the Nurburgring, whos interested? I need numbers so dont delay if your up for it post ya name.

Costs will be around 110 per person on the ferry overnight from Hull on a Thursday night returning on a Sunday night. The B & B we stay at is fantastic & its 90 Euros for the weekend. The Ring charge 75 Euros for 4 laps. its about 60 in each direction for Fuel & you will need money for beer & fuel once were there. I spent about 250 this year but we did go mad.

The dates are 21st to the 25th April 2011, we need to move quickly to book so that we dont loose out.

Hey Daz iv only just noticed this post so im guessing you have booked. I was talkin with my mate who said he'd love to do it so we could do with a few pointers if you could answer it would be great.

1 do you need anything specific to ride the ring? (with it being a racetrack)
2 can you ride in textiles or does it have to be leathers?
3 do you need special insurance for the bike?
4 could i take the xjr on the track?
5 do i need any track experiance

if id have seen this earlier we could have been up for this for sure might even try to get the same dates.

I'll answer those to the best of my knowledge:

    1) It's technically a public toll road (I believe).
    2) As per (1), just whatever is required for the road. i.e. probably just a helmet and whatever.
    3) You're likely to find that your insurance doesn't cover you for the ring. Don't know if specific cover is available.
    4) Yes.
    5) No. Go as fast as you feel comfortable.

Hi Mozz the answer is yes you can go on with anything that is road legal, No insurance company in their right mind will insure you lol. You can as Alex sais go as fast or as slow as you like, all you need do is move over to the right hand side and let faster riders/drivers past.

I will get you on with our ferry bud, hotel isnt a problem.

hi guys Interesting to see your having a ring trip. I have been a fair few times and it is something you must add to the "wish list"

Im no ring veteran but i have done around 25 laps and i still dont know every corner/ bend It is set out in such away that the dips turn into high speed bends and then when you reach the brow of the hill of that particulat bend its a blind entry to either a right or left flick. It is an awsome experience and well worth going for.

As mentioned above anything as long as "german road legal" is all you need, you will encounter open top buses coaches and even transit vans as long as the usual audi R8`s Porches and ferrari`s .

Also as stated it is a public toll road but with no speed limits so german road rules apply including overtaking.

You can purchase a ring card on sight which is a credit card type of thing this will have as many laps as you require on it 1 2 4 10 !! you pay per lap . just queue up at the barrier insert the card and away you go . to budget this buy 10 laps on one card ( the more laps you purchase to cheaper it is ) go out in pairs the non rider inserts the card into the barrier.

beware of racing the locals !!! they know the track very well and if you are a competitive mind you will try to keep up with them not recommended. if you come off the recovery truck comes ( if your bike is unrideable) and you are charged 120 euros for the bike to be taken back to the carpark. If there is a collision between two vechicles car or bike , the police are called and the dispute is settled there and then in euros!!! worst of all is you crash and damage the track or armco barrier ! the police are called and you have to pay for the damage or your bike is kept as a deposit till you pay !! we saw a ducati 999 in sept hit the armco slid down the track and burst into flames this damaged the barrier and the tarmac the bike was wrecked (rider ok) he could not afford the damage fine so the bike stayed there and he had ridden over from france on it !!!!

The roads around the ring are fantatic billiard smooth tarmac and quiet during the week. well worth trying some of these the main road which leads to the spa track in belgium ( an hours ride from the ring ) is pure sex.

Sorry to rant on enjoy the trip just one last thing please check the ring site calander http://www.nurburgringuk.com/calendar.php as not all days are open to the public it is used more and more for testing bikes and cars and private trackdays

Also try to experience the ring taxis!!!!! you will know if your on track and one of these passes you they are normally bmw M5 saloons with ex formula one standard drivers !!! the sight is incredible to see and hear

    ENJOY !!!
