http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ygYbCPwEMU What you reckon? Can't really be arsed getting a new tyre bought & fitted 3 weeks before I sell the thing... Also...which one of you slashed it? haha No idea how this could have happened unless I reversed over a knife...the cut is against the rotation so fuck knows how it happened.
Send the video to the manufacturer. I have heard of others getting a % of a new tyre back for this kind of fault.
Might put it on their Facebook page...they'd sh*t a brick then! haha Not sure though, would this be considered a fault or just bad luck... **EDIT** Hold on... The cut is right across the tyre...Now usually only the center of the tire is on the ground so its impossible that I rode over something, or the cut would just be in one place...this is easily over the central 3/4 of the tire. hmm
It actually looks like a spilt between the molds. EDIT: Watched it again, no youve rode over something. Get it chucked and replaced.
Not sure how though... it goes right across the whole tyre...if I rode over something wouldn't only be 1/3rd of the tire at the most? It isn't like the whole tire is in contact with the road. Also - wouldn't something cut into the tire the opposite way? In the vid the cut is going up, into the tire...if I rode over something it would be cutting down into it (since the video is taken at the back of the bike...technically it is upside down).
Have you had the rear wheel lock up? Looks as if its hit something whilst the wheel hasnt been spinning or very slowly. Metal, curb etc could have done it doesnt have to be a sharp object either
hmm only time like that was my little ice skating video hahaha Kerb possibly when backing it up. Meh, new tire is what? £60? Ehhh fuck...£79 lol
Send a nice polite E-mail to the manufacturer commentin that you are unhappy with the performance of the tyre with the picture. Don't threaten them or even suggest your options. Just the picture and your displeasure described politely. They more than likely will not want the negative publicity and whilst they won't admit fault, as a gesture of good will offer you 50% off the price of a new tyre. They will want your tyre out of circulation so that you are not showing it off as a trophy. Try it. What have you to lose?
I think doof has it right. I reckon some cunt has slashed it. Doesnt look uniform enough for a manufacturing fault. Do you ever leave it anywhere? Just bin and buy a new one.
At night parked on driveway covered up. Of a day parked in Police Headquarters. I've parked it in Liverpool City Center of a night a few times...probably the only time it could have happened...but in that case there were 3 of us on 3 bikes. Its possible but eh, who knows. Pirelli have asked for photos so I've sent them off. Worth a try to see if I can get a new tire.
So quite possible that it could have been messed with at home or in town. You not got a garage or shed?
I wish haha. Phone has been exploding with calls from pirelli all day. I said I'll take the video down if they send me a hat. They're sending me a hat.
got a screw in the rear on way to work, should i remove it and see if tyre deflates during the day, or does anyone know of a tyre place in or near Speke airport
I'd leave it in and take it to a tyre place. If you take it out, sods law says it'll be all the way through and acting like a plug! Take it steady though, I had a screw in a tyre which got spat out. It's not a nice feeling when they suddenly go flat!
Cheers Rob, just walked round to Tom Tullys at speke he didnt want to know, Ill google for tyre places near here
