So i went to my mates, and spent a few hours there, when i left, i went to hit the starter button and a heard a sort of thud, and the starter wouldn't turn, but seemed to drain all the power, all the lights went dim.
So i tried push starting it, but swiftly gave up when the back wheel wouldn't get traction.
Then i thought f*ck it, and tried the starter again. and it fired right up, i rode it home, and it felt fine.
Anyone had something like this before, or any advise?
    Cheers

The first thing I'd do is check the connections on your battery, earth, and starter solenoid

As per above I'd definitely check the earth wire were it's fixed to the frame also

Helps to know what bike it is.
    we always have to guess.
worst case is that fuel has leaked into the cylinder this will cause the engine to lock on compression.
Best case is a loose lead somewhere on battery or solenoid.

If your battery is not tip top and the engine stopped on the compression stroke, the combination could have caused the issue. Your attempted bump start may have moved the crank to a more favourable mechanic advantage for the starter. Also, the nights cooling more seem to show up battery problems this time of year. Check your battery level if it is a wet cell.

thanks for all the replies, ill be checking over the connections first thing, then checking float levels. Was replacing the battery just after Christmas anyway, its been in there 2 years now, so its time for a change.
    Oh and its a 2001 SV650s

Two years is rather short for a battery, unless you don't maintain it or the charging circuit is off spec'. I have run a battery on a bike for a decade before now.

Battery terminals will be loose when you sit on the seat it pushes the connectors to the terminals, tighten them.... Problem solved.

Fine seeya. Oh, if you turn side ways you create less drag and will be mire considerate to L riders as you leave.

That sounds like something that would happen on an Italian bike, lol... surprising it's on a Japanese one. Useful to know

So i tightened up all the ground terminals, thought id go over all the other bolts too, nothing seemed to be loose but it hasn't happened again. Thought id leave it a few weeks before saying anything to see if it had actually worked, and it seems to.
Thanks for the help everyone. :)
