ok as most probably know i have just blown a stupid amount on an 1997 HONDA RVF...the problem is i recon its had a few crashes deffinately one lol.

so im gona prehaps turn it into a lil project and slowly start replacing a few items.(this is goood exp for college)

so could any1 help out and recommend parts and where to purchase them from I.E brake/clutch levers, fairings, front folks, disc brakes, lights, radiator, air filter... and if any1 knows of where i can get a new dash this wud be good as the one now only lights up partly lol and reads in KMPH. (i have seen jap4performance and tygra, but theyre a lil pricey for me atm i may consider them)

im just waiting on an english manual to come before i start doing anything.

dont get me wrong its a lovely bike but i feel unsafe knowing it could be other parts of a bike banged into an RVF fairing. and im not happy with the choke i think thats had its day, and the brake fluid holder on the handlebar...its so dirty i cant see where the level is up to.

    cheers

did u go and view the bike wen u got it?

i think u shud get one of them check things first make sure its deff been in an accident cuz u never know it might not have been.

also u shud try ebay for parts i they are quite good just got to be on the look out all the time for the real bargains.

i think bitz for bikes is fair cheap too its based in rochdale n seems ok.

first get a hpi, no point in spending cash if its ment to be of the road

and if you dont wanna use ebay, its going to be pricey if you want everything new

was the bike from a shop or private?

I can come have a look at it if you want.

Sounds like the fluid hasn't been changed in some time.. not a hard thing to do.
As for the choke, its more likely to be the choke cable is snagged on something or not adjusted correctly.

What makes you think its been crashed?

 bloody ell. if you think it's been in a crash, make sure you check that the frame and forks aren't bent or twisted.
just buy an overlay for the dash, it'd save you a fortune.

for parts and stuff theres loads of websites. obviously ebay
try wemoto http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?ref=*&gclid=CMLUwcHIlZQCFRoVEAodmQxItw they're pretty cheap.
or some of the bigger places like bustershttp://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/home.aspx, m+phttp://www.mandp.co.uk/, hps http://www.bikehps.com/.

hope you get it sorted. let us know how you're getting on.

ok cool, whats a HPI? is that from DVLA ?

you can have a look at it sometime tom

im not gona start anythign yet im going to save first but i really wana get it all changed lol

    jap4performance is an awsome site.

i took all the plastics off the other day, no sign of frame or folk damage, one mark on the right hand side of the clutch basket cover like a drop or summat, thats it. oh and the plastics are all welded, defo been dropped and cracked.. im kinda thinking its an RVF but the frame number suggests otherwise.

the hpi/ hpi style check(rac about £5 i think) check wether the vehicle has been stolen recovered/insurance write off, import, colour changes chassis number and vin number etc

you should be able to do it with just the reg number. It won't show non insurance crashes as they aren't entered onto the system. You should be able to check the frame number to see if it came from an rvf by comparing it online

nope still need resgistration certificate serial number (V5) to do the HPI.

any one know a good website to get full new bake systems (hoses, calipers, discs) ?

 how come you need them? will be very expensive.

can you not just clean the calipers and fit new seals? new calipers are about £150 each . so are discs. are you sure they need replacing?

check out some of the links i put up the other day for you. most of them sell brake lines. wemoto sell caliper seals aswell.

and thats not including spraying still need an estimate on that. maybe another 1k?

nothing atm to spend money on other than useless crap. rather get this outta my system b4 i start to save hard.

tbh, you could do with waiting till you've done the hpi check.
and only in my opinion, but you could do with just getting out and riding it for a few months. because you're more likely to drop it in the first few months. plus then you can do it up over xmas.

you'd have to check what calipers you've got on atm. i'm pretty sure the rvf was pretty well spec'd
as standard :shades: , so you'll probably be hard pushed to get better than what you've got.
better off spending your cash on summat else, like a good set of braided lines and maybe a radial master cylinder. and a decent chain and sprocket set. have you seen pazzo or crg levers? they're well sweet. pazzo stubby levers are deffo on my shopping list. :D  .

http://www.speedycom.co.uk/shop/home.php the alth discs and pazzo levers these have got look proper nice. but you'll prob need to phone em, see if they have em to fit your bike.

the other day the bike just died on me... got to end of my street, and revs died then it cut out...thought it happend coz i didnt warm it up... but it wouldnt fire up until i got back from work 8 hours later??weird? no idea what happend.

you really need to warm it up before you use it, or atleast use it hard.

If theres nothing wrong with the bike i'd be tempted to think it would of been down to the choke either being on too much or not enough
