Part 1 and 2 is on another bike forum, I just thought i'd open it up a bit more Anyway, I had a window of opportunity on Sunday when I found that my account had enough money in it to book a trackday. I just had to go and read the small print didn't I, "Metal knee and/or toe sliders are not allowed”. So I thought to myself, what about my metal foot boards which scrape along the floor a lot of the time when cornering. So I sent an email to MSV, who I was trying to book through and this is the response I got: Hi Philip Thank you for your enquiry regarding using your Suzuki C800 Intruder on one of our trackdays. We do not have any particular restrictions regarding the motorcycles you can use other than that they must be of a roadworthy condition and not exceed the particular noise limit for the day. Because of this we attract quite a wide array of bikes including cruisers as well as the usually sports machinery. In this particular instance, I would say that it’s worth bearing in mind that any fixed part of your bike that regularly grounds out such as foot pegs or foot boards may cause you more of an issue on track than on the road due to the effect this will have on your grip in corners. This is often something that can be solved with a change in body positioning, although on machines with low ground clearance such as your own this may be more limiting. The reason we ask that no metal knee or toe sliders are used is that they can distract or alarm following riders and possibly cause damage to the track which is something you’ll also need to bear in mind. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at either this e-mail address or alternatively on 01474 875219. Our Circuits Brands Hatch Cadwell Park Oulton Park Snetterton Bedford Autodrome -------------------------------------------------------------------- So, my questions to the regular trackday goers: Is there anything I can do to stop grounding the bike (they are spring loaded, and I frequently ground them in the dry)? Are they really going to cause damage to the track? I will be using road tyres, what effect will they have on track regarding grip I definately won't be able to afford hiring a bike for a long while, but I want to do a trackday using my own bike anyway.
its a dirricul one to be honest, i regularily do track days, This Saturday at Oulton for instance, i've seen various bikes, but never a cruiser. a guy i know who rides a HD raised the foot borads on his one inch. as to how easy that is i have no idea? good luck and don't go to Anglesey.
Your likely to come off if the peg digs in hard and low sides you. i've seen it before, why not rent a bike or borrow someones track bike
Try something like a VFR400, that has the lowest seat height of any bike ive ever ridden. It's lower than 125's CBR400 and RVF400 are the same.
please refer to my opening post regarding my choice of ride for Trackday. However, if you want to suggest bikes that I can ride for a Trackday, please pm me for my address you can send your cheques to me so I can buy\hire them. Does anyone have any constructive suggestions?
Constructive advice is give up trackdays untill such time that you buy a suitable bike. Your bike isn't suitable. Blunt and too the point. :shades:
I wouldn't say its not suitable as it can go around a track no problem. But if your thinking of getting your knee down think again, it will make holes in the track with the pegs and probably spit you off and lowside. If your 100% serious on trackdays, why not wait and save for a cheap 400cc? I see them on ebay for 400-800 quid all the time.
Mini P, I saw someone on a Street triple last time we were all out and they must have been doing as little as 60 down the main straight at Oulton. I have battled to keep up with you on the road before so I would say fuck it...go for it and see what happens. Once you're on the track you may be surprised by the number of bikes you pass. Are you able to remove the footboards?
