SOLD My 2002 Aprilia RSV Mille with custom paint scheme

My RSV Mille is up for sale :cry:


She's a solid bike and has performed faultlessly for me but I'm having problems with my wrists and neck now so have bought a 2002 Tuono to replace the Mille. She has 16,177 miles on the clock but is still in use from time to time so this may go up a little bit (any excuse when the sunshine comes out!). I love the Mille and the thumpity-thump eagerness of the big v-twin lump so I could never change to anything else now, hence the choice to get a Tuono. Gutted to be having to sell the Mille but I only really have room for one bike so she unfortunately has to go

I bought her on a SORN last year from the previous owner who left her parked up under a bike cover for about 12 months. I stripped the old girl, gave her some TLC in the form of sparkplugs, oil, new battery, etc. and she willingly barked and fired up on the button straight away There's a nice healthy clunk from the sprag clutch when you shut her off too (if you know anything about RSVs then you'll know that this is a very, very important thing!).

Like all RSVs her rear brake was non-existent when I got her. I replaced the brake fluid and bled the rear brake system PROPERLY (caliper removed and hung upside down) and lo and behold she now has a rear brake that bites like Louis Suarez in a world cup match .

The unique custom paint scheme uses Plastidip (see my full "titivation" thread in the projects section for more info). Plastidip is a user-friendly industrial-strength synthetic rubber paint that is long-lasting and durable - if you want to learn more about it then check out www.dipyourcar.com to see just how versatile and tough this stuff is. I painted the bike in this scheme as the OEM finish was a little tatty, with scuffs and marks on it - she was a solid bike but needed a little cosmetic TLC. Underneath the paint it is a matt black OEM paint job. Some bits were rubbed down to flatten scuff marks before applying the new paint scheme.

There are some small marks on the swingarm and a small almost-invisible dink in the exhaust can. Obviously this is a 12 year old bike so will have marks and such, however the new paint really does raise her game. There are also some fine scratches on the LHS upper area of the tank - I've included a photo. They're probably something and nothing to you, but "full disclosure" etc.


Obviously the paint scheme is the main attraction (the Plastidip coating is easy to clean too - just wipe it down with warm soapy water and voila - clean as a whistle). Plastidip is ridiculously easy to work with (check out www.dipyourcar.com) and can be very easily removed and replaced if you fancy a colour change. I did the repaint myself and will probably be painting my Tuono in exactly the same stuff as soon as the Mille has gone to a new home. I have to point out that there's a small blemish in the paint at the front lower corner on the LHS of the pillion seat hump. I applied the Plastidip a little too overzealously on that spot and it pooled, leaving the blemish you can see in the photo. It's almost hardly worth mentioning as no-one notices it unless you point it out but I want to be absolutely honest.

She has a few little extras fitted too:

• Smoked double bubble screen
• Honda Fireblade sidestand (the OEM sidestands are awful and the '04-'07 Fireblade stand is a much-sought after upgrade)
• Oxford Saturn LED indicators
• Rear seat hump
• Racing rearsets (move the footpegs a touch further back to give a little extra leg room for comfort)
• Wavey discs front and back
• Upgraded steel oil tank from an RSVR
• Delkevic exhaust and link pipe
• Tail tidy
• Brand new real carbon fibre tank protector
• Brand new StompGrips (these things are amazing! The grip and security they give you when riding is just phenomenal)
• Full set of Cool Blue headlight bulbs

The tyres are Pirelli Diablos and have a healthy chunk of life left in them yet (I've included a picture of the centre tread marker on the rear tyre).


She's currently on a private plate but this isn't included in the sale and she'll be going back onto a 2002 age-related plate. She's taxed until the end of August and MOT'd until February 2015.

I'm based in Horwich so you're more than welcome to come have a look at the old girl, but test rides will only be allowed if you put the full asking price in my hand (you bin/break it and you've bought it). No, she isn't showroom perfect, but she's definitely eye-catching with her new colour scheme and she has that lovely "discreet" v-twin exhaust whisper (sarcasm intended).










I've put a lot of work into the cosmetics on an already-solid bike here. I'm sad to see her go and I'd intended to keep her a long time (hence I stripped and painted her), but there's no point keeping a bike that I can only ride for a 20 minute blast before the pain in my wrists and neck becomes too much.

I'd like her to go to a good home but at this price I am also under no illusions that she may also end up being a track bike. I suppose that so long as someone gets good use out of her then I'll be happy.
