Morning all, Currently in the process of modifying a 98 VFR800 wheel so that it will fit on me RRW Blade. Part of my 17ich "upgrade" for the front so I have a better selection of rubber. Wondering if anyone knows of a decent machine shop with a big enough lathe in the Manchester area that can turn a wheel. Need about 3.5mm shaving off each side of the centre hub on the wheel as don't fancy putting a couple of spacers on my calipers. Any help appreciated. -Herms
I toyed with same idea when I had my rrx but decided to upgrade to an rr5 instead. Let us know how you get on. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 4
There is a wheel that goes straight in and you only need a different spacer on the axle shaft. Have done this on a mates bike, not sure what the wheel was, think it could have been a cbr400 or similar. It's well documented on the Fireblade forum. Was looking at doing it to mine but changed my mind.
Sadly that's for the 918's pre 98. the 98 and 99 RRW/X are a ballache as it's when Honda decided to change up to 310mm discs and change the entire front wheel.... for just 2 years =/ Been on the Fireblades.org forum, and Oracle Fireblades also. A chap called Russ was the first to figure out exactly how to do it, then my mate followed in his footsteps. Guessing your mates bike wasn't a 98/99? And for others with pre 98 blades, I believe a cbr400 NC29/30 wheel should fit, or a wheel from a cbr600 of the same year. -Herms
Yes, his is an early one. Mine is an rrw, there's still a reasonable choice in 16" for normal use. It looks like a lot of work to change to 17" Be interested to see a write up when you've got it sorted.
I could post Russ's as it's very in depth. I'll try and ask him for permission though he's not been active on oracle or fireblades for about a year. If not I'll make sure I document the lot. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
