    Hiya lads,

Two problems with the bike, more like three actually.

    1. I have a set of standard Mk1 carbs that were sat for quite a while and have some shit in them. I've stripped them down and cleaned them but there seems to be dirt in the passageways as when it started up it ran fine for about 2 minutes then started missing on two cylinders. I'm looking at getting them ultrasonically cleaned as I've had problem after problem with these carbs and dirt, I've recently fitted new fuel line and and inline fuel filter to make sure it doesn't happen again. Does anybody on here have one that I could use? Don't fancy shelling out for one if I'm only going to use it once, I'm broke at the minute too :(
    2. I bought a set of Dyno'd Mk2 carbs which were second hand so I stripped them down, however in the process very slightly bent the top of the needle. We tried straightening the needle the best we could but the bike sounds like it's missing on one cylinder, the power delivery is hardly affected, the bike just sounds a little strange at low rpm.
    3. The bike is currently running the Dyno'd carbs as they run better than the others currently, however I rebuilt the bike last night and once I let off the throttle, the bike doesn't drop the revs as fast as it used to and it idles higher too. I've adjusted the idle to the lowest setting but it feels like the bike is running with the choke on, even though the choke leaver is fully released.
Any and all help would be appreciated!
    Cheers

    smudger I Love SV650's

i used my airline in my carbs should of seen all the shit come out the needles ran a lot better and was better throttle response but i dnt recommend doing it

You are welcome to borrow my ultrasonic bath if you are local. I'm in wigan. Are the inlet rubbers ok bit of a prone failure on bandits fitted lots of them even when bikes only 12 months old we used to get them in for running problems due to them cracking underneath

I could pop down, I live in Rochdale but work in Warrington everyday so I can take a detour and bring my carbs with me. Not too sure about the inlet rubbers, the had some gunk on them but I cleaned them up. I'll strip them down tonight to check how they are, what can I do if they're fucked?

Not much you can do I'm afraid if they are split other than replace them I've seen all sorts of attempts duck tape silicone etc but nothing as ever really cured them. I might even have some good second hand ones let me know if you need them and I will see what I can find

    Are they flat slide carbs?
First check all 4 pots are running well, check the temp of the headers when running. Couple of ways of doing it, spit on finger and tap the header, I do it this way, or pray a little water on one at a time if they sizzle they are running. Another way is to take the air filter off and squirt some carb cleaner through each carb no throttle (only a quick squirt) if the engine revs drop it's fine if the revs rise that's you problem carb.

Did you count the turns in on the mixture/pilot screw? Did you remove the pilot/mixture screw?
Did you clean out all the air passages including the choke passage to the top of the carbs?
Check the needles for wear this will show up as a groove around the point.
Check the diaphrams are not split.

As these are dyno'd carbs it's likely that they are running a bit rich for your bike if it still has standard air filter and exhaust.
From your explanation it sounds like it's running rich on the bottom end. The first thing to look at is the needles they may need dropping a notch this will help the slowing down, check that you have slack in the throttle cable so the butterflys are fully down.
If you still have problems with the tick over wind the pilot/air screw in half a turn. If this makes it stall wind them out 1/4 turn.

Already had a pop at this with both sets of carbs! With the dyno'd carbs it was the third header, however these carbs have been stripped down completely, had carb cleaner sprayed through every passage and crevice and put back together. Like I said, we very slightly bent the top of one of the needles and it's the same header that's warm when the others are piping hot. Could a bent needle affect the running slightly? The bike runs, it's just a bit of an annoyance and it sounds off.

Didn't take out the mixture screws in the dyno'd carbs because somebody had completely fucked one of them, however we did take out the pilot screws on both sets of carbs. Do you have to count the turns on a pilot screw? I'm not sure if we did.

I'll be sure to check the other things you mentioned though, on both carbs.

One set is dyno'd, yes; the other is not. I'm running a Pipercross air filter and Beowulf exhaust. I'll have to drop out the dyno'd carbs on the weekend when I'm not working as it's my only means of transport.

I just sent my carbs to cleaned/ inspected. Can't wait to get them back in the bike and see if it sorts my running issues out.
    Good luck resolving your issues.

Have you tightened the clamps on the inlet rubbers and airbox? I keep finding them loose on yours :p
Also, the clamps themselves can be tightened and interfere with the throttle linkage if at the wrong angle, could be holding it off idle slightly. Revs dropping slow sounds like lean mixture.

Made sure they were clamped to buggery, don't want my carbs falling out on the M60 :roflmao: Took the tank off last night again and adjusted the throttle cable, seems to have gotten a bit better. You'll have to try it this weekend.
