I am up in Southport , no tools with me and the chain has gone utterly slack . I mean dragging on the Centre stand at rest slack. I dont know if I have a catastophic failure of the front sprocket or if the back wheel has suddenly moved, but what ever I am utterly stranded here now. If anyone local to here could have a look at it for me I would be greatful or fgailing that I will se if the AA can send out someone who actually knows about bikes.. most of the time they just look at the bike scratch their arse and say "oh you need a recovery truck for that mate, can have one here in about two hours"
I'm in work in Warrington, but agree that if you can get to Southport Superbikes they would be able to help.
Sorry im nowhere near. But things you can check yourself if you have the bikes toolkit Remove front sprocket cover. Is there any play in the shaft? Is the sprocket still in place? Put the bike on the centre stand. Is there play in the rear wheel? Is there play in the cush drive rubbers? Can you move the rear sprocket excessively?
push a Blackbird? Fk me i HAVE TWOHERNIAS ALREADY AND NOT BUILT LIKE gEOFF cAPES...]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] BUT The people here AT THE bRITISH lEGION hOTEL got onto the AA for me and insisted they send a qualified motorcycle mechanic round A.S.A.P. SO oNE IS DUE ABOUT 2:30.... Thanks anyway guys,,,,,
Thanks for the suggestions but, if I bend down I get a pain like a knife opening me up from the groin to the Knee, so doing anything on it myself it totally out for now..... but really grateful for these rapid replies ...........
RR. I've just got home , will take one of my vans up to the southport front ......TO SEE IF WE CAN FIND YOU , IVE POSTED MY MOBILE NUMBER !
Hes got more chance of fixing his bike with his hands tied behind his back, than of only using lower case.......
RR, only just seen this, glad your sorted. Horrible being stuck out on a Limb, i have breakdown included on my Insurance policy.broke down on m6 reg/rec once , so dead handy.
It was really strange ...... came to ride the bike today and found the chain hung down like the belly of a fish. AA Guy came and tried to sort it but the wheel was binding, when he tightened the axle up the back wheel just locked at one particular point. At this point i realised something is fucked and glad it went coming back from formby not coming over the snake.. I am guessing wheel bearing(s) gone and or disk warped chain shagged as well . plus two new tyres cos the rear is shot now... So no chance of being on a bike for at least a month unless my ex feels like being very generous. bet the back wheel and chain will set me back £300, plus £200 for tyres....... Another trip to the music shop to sell a guitar ...... bugger bugger bugger ....
Most likely the bearing, prob sprocket carrier and the wheel bearing that side. Must have been rough for along time to have collapsed.
It carries the rear sprocket and is a push fit into the wheel. You have rubber bits called Cush drives that fit between the wheel and the sprocket carrier. They're not expensive and will be worth replacing while it's all in bits. You still in Southport, or back in them there hills?
