ive been after some cans for the R1, but after spending a fortune on a system for the last bike ive decided to make my own.

found some donor cans - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110669205847

the seller put them as 2007 cans, but they are actually for the 04-06 model, so i was the only bidder!

just bought the baffle kit (from the states. cheap enough but the postage is pricy - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/04-05-06-Yamaha-R1-Race-Exhaust-Baffle-Kit-Baffles-/360358944733?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53e7111fdd

so once they arrive i'll hopefully end up with this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykeo0uvFU4E

    nice one... easy enough innit.
have a look in the links section at the link for PJ engineering.... they sell all the replacement parts like sleeves, perforated tubes, wadding etc.
i'll make my own from scratch next time and save a fortune.

also m8, make sure you use stainless rivets as ordinary ally ones look shite after theyve been heated up

tbh i looked at pj eng. first, but they didnt seem to have the right size tube. mine needs about 1 3/4". and it was only about £5 dearer to buy the kit from the states.

we should have loads of stainless rivets in work.

donor cans arrived today. mint condition, so got a bargain there

the baffles are on their way from texas, and will probably take a couple of weeks to get here.

baffle kit came today. took 8 days to get here which is pretty good

so should be making them next week on nights (so long as its quiet at work!)

i'll take some pics if i think on to show either how to make them step by step, or how to f*ck up a perfectly good set of exhausts! :russian_roulette:

    all done!
ive got some pics on my phone (not great quality) but all went to plan, just need to fit them tomorrow and see what they sound like.
my only negative is they dont send nearly enough packing material. will do for now, but i'll buy plenty for when they need re-doing.

part 1 - gutting the cans.

right, first thing to do is drill out the rivets that hold the end cap on, but before you go mad, draw a line round each one for a reference (you'll need this later)

once the heads are drilled (use a cobalt drill bit if poss) pop the remaining bit of rivet out with a punch, and remove the caps.

there are four spot welds that need to be cut away. this bit looks drastic, but all the cuts are hidden so lond as you dont go past the reference line you made earlier. you can try to drill the welds but the cans are titanium and hard as fook!

once all the welds are gone give the can a few good taps on the outlet spout, then clamp it in a vice (if your lucky enough to have one) and you should be able to slide the outer sleeve off the core.

now you are left with an outer ready to fit your race baffle in.
