EVENT NAME: Sunset to Sunrise Macmillan Charity Ride EVENT DATES: 21st - 22nd June 2013 EVENT DESCRIPTION: Charity ride - Holyhead to Skegness -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- START LOCATION: Holyhead ADDRESS: Southstack Kitchen Carpark CITY: Holyhead COUNTY: Anglesey POSTCODE: LL651YH End location: Skegness – The Storehouse - North Parade PE25 1BY EVENT URL: http://www.bikers4macmillan.org.uk Email: admin@bikers4macmillan.org.uk Bikers 4 Macmillan are a fundraising group raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support through the common ground of an interest in Motorcycling. Throughout the year we organise trips, rides and visits. Some are fundraising and some are not, after all, we’re motorcyclists that raise funds not fundraisers who ride bikes. This is the 6th Year Of The Annual Overnight Ride from Holyhead to Skegness and it takes place overnight on June 21st /22nd 2014. The ride departs from Southstack Car park (LL65 1YH), Holyhead at 9.30pm and travels across country (no Motorways) and aims to arrive at Skegness by 4.15am just as the sun rises. Last years tour was a great success with 86 riders completing the 256 miles and enabling us to present Macmillan with a cheque for £15,000 with the help of 3 times British Super Bike Champion John Reynolds! The ride is fully marshalled with 200 places available and there are plenty of fuel/refreshment stops along the way as well as the odd bacon butty thrown in! Many riders make their way to Holyhead the night before and stay over in the Valley area before meeting up at the Southstack Kitchen: where there are drinks and snacks available.http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/s/southstackcliffs/facilities.aspx Departing at roughly 9:30pm we will arrive around 4:15am at the Storehouse Skegness where floor space can be provided for a small fee for you to get your head down for a few hours (bring a sleeping bag, pillow etc) otherwise you can contact local hotels that may be able to put you up for a few hours as well although most riders departed after regaining some feeling in their legs, a bacon sandwich, tea and a photo! Participants are asked to pre-register (Rider only £15, Rider and Pillion £20) through our website: http://www.bikers4macmillan.org.uk All funds raised go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
I fancy doing this. I raised £1500 for Macmillan in 2012 taking Miles the bear around as part of the Street Triple forum all counties challenge so it would be nice to do something for them again. BTW I'm also doing this years ride of respect for the British legion. If anyone wants to join me on either give me a shout.
We looked at this last year. The problem was finding somewhere to get some kip when you get to Skeggy. The thought of riding home without some sleep first seems insane
I'm also doing the Bone-shaker Marrow-thon on 2nd March from Queen Elizabeth Hospital Edgbaston to The Pirrelli Stadium in Burton-on-Trent in aid of Leukaemia, Anthony Nolan Trust, website is http://www.katherines-story.com/boneshaker main page.htm#.UvU22_l_t17 Me n my much better half are gonna have Saturday 1/3/14 out in Birmingham followed by a very nice evening meal at the Bulls Head in Meriden (its a cracking place with food to die for) where we are also stayiing the night and then a nice ride for charity on the Sunday morning.
hi everyone,me and 5 mates did this ride last year its fantastic, well organised and a great set of like minded people. wasnt the quickest ride ive been on but we made good pace. we booked a hotel n stayed till monday afternoon (night on the piss sunday) not sure if i can do it again this year if i do i wont be staying in skeggy its a sh1t hole lmao. btw thats me @ the back in black bald head on the right
WHere steve ? they opened the church hall couple of years back but you had to be out for 10 due to a service at 11
plenty of bald headed day glo dereks in that picture lol who are those with the orange shoulder pads, dont they know the fashion as been gone for around 25 years !!
The website says there's some place you can put a sleeping bag down a get a few ZZZZZs. That's all I need. I can sleep standing up if need be after years of shift work.
If anyone goes, go down to Castell Hellen bird observatory it's only about 100 yards away from the car park and look down to the right, some of the best sea clifffs in Britain, climbers come from all over the world to climb there, spectacular but scary.
Jaffa as someone who's just lost a mate to a brain tumour I would love to this I'm sure all of our circle of friends would sponsor me, just not sure if I can do it safely as I'm crap without sleep!!
Ill keep u awake. All we got to do is have a lazy day that day and a kip in a sleeping bag when we get to skeggie. If need be loads of coffee n cakes on way back. Well do fine. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I KNEW IT ...i just knew there was something going on with you two ...i could see by the glimpse in your japs eye stephen ...Sleep well lads
Well the rides filling up nicely, 120 was the last count and its nice to see that some of you on hear are interested. I see some of you are wondering about sleeping arrangements, yes you can stay over at the church which is also the end location but admin will need informing of this so that we can let them know, also we have secured again the Marquee at this years start point so people were able to get there head down prior to the ride. In the past i've mentioned this hotel to people, he's in Skegness and has been accommodating in the past by letting riders check in early in the morning, have a cooked breakfast and then depart at lunch. http://www.westdenehotel.co.uk
