i'm off to the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales next weekend (fingers crossed for weather...). seeking inspiration for roads & routes, what do people suggest?
and the jumps!!! (ask kev!) when you get to the top of the bit that says 'hidden dip', whack the throttle open & you'll do an ace descending wheelie & land nicely (all being well lol) top road that is. i like carrying on straight through hawes, toward leyburn etc... brilliant roads. most just ride to hawes then turn round and go back, but if you carry on, all the roads through those valleys are special! obviously be carefull for others enjoying the road coming the other way... dont want any binnages!
Feck I sh*t myself yesterday up there mate, thought I was on the TT course, ballaugh bridge, the bike proper took off, then it was down into a sharp right/left. Awesome road, like Martin says take it easy, I was drunk on the scenery whilst Mr Jones made progress lol
When you get half way along this road there is a parking area near the viaduct, the road joining from the right comes from Settle and is equally as exciting as the Hawes to Ingleton road. Thoroughly recommended. If you get over to the Lakes area, check out the road from Bowness to Ambleside which takes you over Kirkstone Pass, not as long as the Ingleton road but shouldn't be missed if your in the area
thanks folks, i'll put them on the route and see how we go. weather looking shite, but cant have everything !
Iv just got back from a week in the lakes, Kirkstone pass is a must ( Windermere to Pooley bridge) If you have time id suggest Newlands & Honister pass also Hardknott & Wynrose pass then maybe off to St Bees, beautiful place. If you are doing Wynrose make sure you have your witts about you as its a bit bit dangerous but really good fun ( all slowish riding mind) Just very tight n steep
hello folks, had a great, but very wet time which only got worse... friday was okay, bit of a shower. Saturday - when the puddles are up to the axles and you have to stand on the pegs to get through the puddles, you know its been raining! Sunday, supposed to be a gentle bimble back through the yorkshire dales until this happened....a combination of a bend, crest, bit of damp - wasnt going crazy, probably doing 50-60 max and the front end just washed out - just got caught out with the front end going light. thankfully nothing coming the other way and after bouncing down the road i landed in the grass verge instead of hitting the wall or the bike - the results speak for themselves (if you can see pics?). two broken wrists, a battered knee, possibly broken ankle but still here ! bike (was a nice fazer) a write off and all gear scrapped but it did its job and insurance covers it. wasnt alone when it happened,my Dad was about 100yds (he wasnt too happy!) and couple of nice mountain bikers stopped and helped (one a fireman). so, glad to still be here and it may take a bit of time but i will be back. take care out there !
