Clutch exploded caused by KTM not lock-titing one of the clutch retainers that hold the springs in place. Bolt got out of the clutch assembly, followed by the retainer = mess behind clutch and locked the engine up at 40mph. Couldnt re-engage the clutch to roll it to a stop so I had to slide it to a stop, believe me when I say this could very easily of got me killed. Heres what I put on FB earlier; Finally have the RC8R back, it has some problems that neither Rocket Centre or KTM are taking on board since the Clutch failure caused by a manufacture defect. Being bounced between both of them after Rockets took over 5 weeks to 're-check the clutch' claiming no fault is present. I requested the bike be returned to them after the clutch repair due to excessive noise from the rear cylinder (you can hear this over a full akra race system on a v-twin) Engine is struggling to rev without massive vibration from the rear cylinder on engine spool up under load and the engine is also jumping out of 2nd randomly. After the clutch failed due to the clutch spring retainer not being lock-tite in the factory, Rockets Centre replaced the clutch as per KTM's instruction. I met them half way on payment for labour, collection and oil due to the bike being out of manufacturer warranty at the time, although had only covered around 4800 miles in its life. I requested the whole engine be investigated for debris due to the nature of the fault. Anyone who has ever had a clutch failure, the failure locked up the engine and rear wheel which stops you from engaging the clutch to roll the bike to a stop, giving me a long rear slide. I was fortunate I was able to get the bike under control and was going less than 40mph when it happened. If this had happened during a track day or higher speed event I would of been killed or seriously injured without a doubt. So, all in all a £10,000+ bike of KTM Racing's top spec range has a fault confirmed by the manufacturer which appeares to have caused a cascade of other problems due to the engine not being flushed correctly by a KTM dealership? I requested a written confidence document from Rockets mechanics asking for them to sign to confirm they do not believe this will occur again, they wouldn't even give me the time of day. So would you continue to ride something you had little confidence in? What happens to me if this does fail while riding and causes me serious injury or death?
Thats shocking, far too finakey for my liking and every one who owns one has a bad tale to tell not only about the bike but the people who are supposed to build and serivice them. Get shut m8.
Nah. they are great bikes. im on my second and have never had any issues. oh except when..................
Tbh I've had ktms for donkeys years and never had any major issues until I bought this rc8 however this was dealer error. As for your rc8r it does sound like s wank dealer. Colwyn bay are awesome an I can say I trust them with my life. As for my rc8 its fuckin mint never had so much fun ever . Today for example we ripped up ny on 250 Miles at warp speed and where you point it it goes, get into trouble just shove it in and out the other side, your rewarded by hard riding. I'm very happy and can't wait for oulton park Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
