If you have already got a piston and gasket set, put it on and see what happends as you have got nothing to lose. if you can stick a new small end bearing in as well.

Im going to get some gasket seal in a bit and im going to try that out tonight.

Also, when the coolant was put in, it all pissed out of the engine, will it of been coming out of the top end were the gasket wasnt sealing properly? When we took the top end off again, alot more came out. But when we originally put the coolant in, it seemed to be coming out of the bottom.

It maybe, but its very hard to say, sorry not a lot of help.

Check to see if the head isnt warped and use a torque wrench when tighting the head back down.

The bottom of the barrel(?) section is warped, im skimming it tomorrow at work. The coolant was leaking out of the top end and we sealed that with some gasket seal.

I found that there was about 2cm of play in the piston :S. We managed to get it started but it would tick over, then die when you tried to rev it... Im guessing thats to do with the play in the piston. So come this weekend, i can put it all back together with new bits and a skimmed barrel and all is well.

    Hopefully.....

Checked the play again today... Its about 1.5cm at the piston and a few mm at the bottom of the conrod.

I manage to have a quick ride on it before as it decided to move, but after a few laps around the yard it died.

Anyway, the top end is coming with me to work tomorrow but i wont be able to skim it, but i need to re-tap the manifold for the exhaust mounts. Then ill get it skimmed professionally..

Then the engines getting dropped and flushed and i will be putting the bike back together with all the new bits. Should be fun.

I know I should of just bought a new engine. But i think im learning alot doing this and I didnt want to get a new engine and it ends up failing after a few weeks and i have to replace the parts anyway.

    Cheers.

Is that side to side play? Its up and down play you have to worry about.

And I agree with you 100% at the end of all this work on your engine you will have learnt a lot. there is nothing like experance,Si

Ye it was side to side play. Up and down is fine.

I skimmed the cylcinder today :D in work and its came out great, also made some new studs for the manifold so i can fix my exhaust on properly.

All my stuff has come too so its just a case of whacking it all on. I cant wait as its gonna seem like a new bike as its had little problems for a while and its gonna be fun riding having no worries :D

    Cheers for the help si.

    Fixed!

Rebuilt the engine on saturday and its running nicely. Still gotta change the chain/sprockets and disks but thats getting done tomorrow.

There is only 1 problem which is that it bogs down when im pulling away in 1st, so ive gotta give it some revs and slip the clutch abit to get going. It idles fine at about 1.5k and it goes through the gears nicely.

I havent set the powervalve up properly yet and im wondering wether that may be the reason that its bogging out..

Also, ive got to run it in now. I think about 50 miles below 6k, 50 miles below 9k, and then its fine to rag around. Is this too much, or too little time for running in?
