Well, after a trip to seabank, I was told that my chain hadn't been adjusted properly. The Chain at it's tightest spot had absolutely no play in it at all. Needless to say, Aaron said if I had gone up a kerb, my chain would've snapped.

End result is: Aprilia Merseyside are going to cost me roughly £70 to put it right. Need a new chain, and possibly new rear wheel bearings.

Moral: If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is (Winter checkup was £5... Bargain, I thought...)

so ask them for the £70?
dont just put up with it. imo you should never have accepted tubes in new tyres either.

The tube in the tyre fiasco was fine by me, I won't be going any faster than 120mph, so there's not really much of a problem for that.

The thing is, if I go there and tell them that it's their fault, they're just going to straight up deny it, regardless if I produce the receipt they gave me for the checkup.

Motor bike sprockets are round. You may be confusing them with push bike sprockets? There are egg shaped ones available because when you pedal you do not put even pressure in one complete revolution, the egg shaped ones are supposed to help eliminate that.

mate, please dont take this the wrong way, but you need to start standing up for yourself. regardless of whether you think they will deny liability you should still be getting on to them. if your not very confrontational write down your points and ring em at least. could be a simple mistake by an apprentice or something. may have set the chain slack when on its stand. if nothing else it may stop it happening again.

yeh fair enough. At the end of the day, they were the last ones to touch my bike, they've made the mistake.

I'll pop in on Wednesday afternoon to express my concerns. Might even get some compensation back at least.

Gutted for you dude £70 seems to steep. I reckon because of the incompitance of whoever did your winter check, you should look at atleast getting your repair down to half price. Regardless of whoever checked your bike and how much it cost, I would of thought they would of least checked and adjusted your chain properly.

Dude seriously learn a lesson from this. Get yourself a Haynes manual spend a few quid on a 3/8" and 1/2/" socket set and teach yourself. That should get you started, me and other peeps have specialist tools you could borrow for bigger jobs should you need them and there is bucket loads of advice for FREE on here.

Self maintanance ect is all the fun of motorcycle ownership it's not a hobby or passion it's a labour of love

here is a good place to start for the basics - http://www.dansmc.co...epaircourse.htm

fk haynes, theyre crap lol, get yourself a free pdf workshop manual from the free manuals link in the garage section.
any questions just ask - loads will help you.
the thing comes apart easy by a trained monkey working for peanuts, so there's nothing you can't do yourself.
the only thing i pay someone else to do is MOT testing and tyre fitting.
most stuff on your bike you can do with basic tools - 3/8 drive socket set, set of screwdrivers & metric allen keys and open / ring spanners from 8 - 32mm.
you could buy all that in one hit from screwfix for less than 50 notes.

personally i'd take a hit on the chain & sprox - do you really want another clown to mess with your bike?
do it yourself and then at least you know it's been done proper.

Alright. Got my chain ordered (D.I.D one??) for £28. Should be with us on Tuesday/Wednesday.

I might as well put the bike in for a service, too seeing as I've gone 3,000 miles without one.

Managed to get my work hours cut down :)() So I went off to Aprilia to express my concerns!

They accepted liability and had offered to do a discounted chain at £20 (I already bought one at £28)
When I said that I've already purchased one, they said that they'll fit it (And make doubly sure it were properly adjusted) for free...

I probably will take them up on that as they'd do a better job than I will, and it'll cost me £30 less than Seabank were prepared to fit it for.

you seem to be having a tough time with this seabank place tyres chains and sprockets !! they are all basic equipment that you should know about on your machine

I really would not bother with spunkbank again so go else where glad you got sorted in the end

try to learn the basic bike maintenance yourself its cheaper and its fun you get to know your bike better too

spunkbank are taking the p*ss out of you so fuc em off it will cost them in the end all the lads on here reading your threads are likley NOT to go there. Bad reputation spreads fast

New chain arrived this morning. Took it to Aprilia for free fitting. Half an hour later, it was ready. Noticed a kid was wheeling my bike out, the little fecker scratched my exhaust against another bike... Not pleased

As soon as I got my keys back, I went straight to Seabank to put another £50 down on my new CBR, then asked Martin to check it over... The chain was far too slack and hadn't even been lubed.

If anyone breaks down outside Aprilia Merseyside, just push your bike somewhere else, it'll only cost you more money in the end.

get back on to them. is the exhaust damaged or marked?
tell them you have had the bike checked over and it wasnt right.
write to their manager and explain youd like it resolving or you will escalate matters to aprilia uk.

you did tell someone that the kid damaged the exhaust?

There's no point in escallating it further, feck them. It's only a minor scuff anyway, bit of polish will work that out easily.

Only person I told was Jazz, who was with me at the time.

I'm not arsed with Aprilia any more, I'll just know not to go there for anything anymore.
