respray coming along well.... tank, tailpiece, pillion cover & hugger are all finished and look very shiny lol! 2nd coat went on the fairings and lowers yesterday. using a merc glacier white 2 pack (not sure of the maker, just says mercedes on the tin...) started off with a plastic primer to aid flexing & stiction, then a dust coat, flatted off then 2 coats of top gloss. looks brilliant & very hard paint. Hopefully it will withstand paintchips & not crack like the last job. cos im spraying in the garage and it's still cold, i used a propak accellerator to help curing time & now the mrs has gone out i can get the smaller panels in the oven lol. note the small compressor??? it's a little 3hp oil free jobby but didnt come with a receiver so i piped it into a 20L propane tank, good for 13bar. the last one i used was a compair oiled piston compressor from work but i noticed i was getting a bit of oil spotting in the finish so got rid of it. also cos it's oil free ive got a 6mm nylon line feeding air under my mask as i only have a cartridge jobby. using a devilbiss gti gravity fed hvlp gun which is bloody ace - excellent investment imo. white is defo the hardest colour to spray lol - shows up every defect in the prep & finish! was going to completely strip the bike for powder coating but the satin hammerite i used on the frame last year has lasted well so i'm just going to touch it up where it needs it. soon as the painting is out of the way the bike is getting strung up, swing arm off so i can check the bushes & linkages, plus theres a new shock to go on cant wait to get back out on it - i love this bike!!!
no rush for it just yet cos the kwak is taxed til march. ive sorned the vtr so i'll be taking my time with it & making sure it's bob on. wanted to get all the mechanical work out the way before doing the body cos the fairing & tank was on off on off last year with all the mods ive done. only thing left to do now is the shocker & also want to tap some grease nipples into the swinger & linkages. they have a habit of drying out due to being so close to the header on the rear cyl. then just have to get my odo reset to zero lol mods so far.... bmc 1404r, dj e1185, 50 pilots, intake mod, short stacks, snorkel mod, rc45 throttle, volvo fuel pump, factory pro +4, lightened flywheel, TT ccts, hrc cams, polished ports, norgren vac valves, wirth prog fork springs & valve mod, yacugar prog rear spring, forks -10, cb1100 r/r, beaver relays, 130/95 h4, laser cans, scottoiler mk7, diabolo corsa 3ct's, cbx master cyls, chinky doglegs, goldfren pads, s/s hoses, harris rear sets, fabbri black screen, 15/46 gearing, 19L tank, carbon hugger & pyramid lowers, just being swapped for a better fitting skidmarx lower.
lol basterd, yes i know its mingin atm! no point cleaning it tbh. its getting a nice light race fairing, single seat, fresh paint, new headers & a 5k engine by easter
You better start work on the mods list for when you update it in your garage mate.....That will take you a few hours. Can't wait to see it.
tbh it wont look much different than before except nice & shiny & new, and should stick to the road a bit better lol! might gear it down a bit more for better wheelies and to keep my speed down a bit as well!
trying to weigh it down with paint so you can keep up  it did look a mess tho didnt it - only way i could clean it was with 100 grade sandpaper!
It looked stonking, until you got within about 6 feet of it, whereupon it looked like you'd taken all the bits off and just squeezed several bottles of white primary school paint over them before bolting it all back on. True story
