None of this Mr "pay me $20m to showboat" Schumaker or Mr Ken "Yes I have skills and want to show off" Block. This isn't done for the money. Or for showing off. This is just pure, hardcore, driving to win. Don't forget to close your mouth after the first few seconds... Bow down and worship. Seriously.
fantastic piece of driving & a superbly prepared engine - hill climbing is a very under rated motor sport imo.
yeah that was one of my better races i probably could have been a bit smoother but i was happy with it.
Impressive, but I still think the M20 has it over the 405 for simple pure balls-out hardcore driving.
Different strokes, really. The driver may be more hardcore, but it's easy to be when you've got nice smooth tarmac all the way up and 'only' 400ish bhp as opposed to the quad turbo 700bhp of the 405, or the 1000bhp of the most mental rally hill climb cars (Escudo Pikes Peak etc). I'd be more intimidated riding passenger in the 405 on rough terrain than the M20 on tarmac.
I love the skidmarks on the road where others had got it very wrong... probably some on there undies too lol
Absolutely. Sheer utter beasts of the good old rally days However... The Norma M20 in the hillclimb clip is powered by a 400bhp 3.0 BMW engine and the whole car weighs 614kg. That's 651bhp per tonne. The only spec I can find for the Pikes Peak Peugeot 405 Turbo T16 GR gives it 650bhp and a weight of 950kg, giving it 684bhp per tonne. The bhp-per-tonnes are very close but to say these are chalk and cheese is an understatement! The Norma M20 on smooth (ish) tarmac is like a high velocity razor requiring surgical and perfect inputs - very clinical. The Pikes Peak 405 is more like art in the way it's slid from corner to corner on the rocky grit and dirt tracks. Equal respect on both sides but for me it boils down to the fact that the Pug is battering 684bhp-per-tonne in a rollcaged body with good crash protection. The Norma is battering 651bhp-per-tonne in a fibreglass shell with the driver's arse 2" off the deck
Didn't know the M20 was so light, so fair enough on the PWR. However, to compare it with it's contemporaries, the unlimited spec rally hill climb machines have become even more mental than the 405. Look at the Suzuki XL7 'Pikes Peak' racer: 2L V6 producing 1000bhp and 1000Mn torque, with a weight of just 800kg. 1250bhp/ton! Not as arty or well produced as the Pug video, but shows how rally cars in these competitions are no less insane than ever. Shame hill climbs don't get the recognition or attention they deserve.
Im with the 405 Ari Vatenen is a god, and i still to this day have the vatenen touch video(obsolite i know) and the picture i had took with him at the lombard rac, gi8ve me vat in the loose gravel than some guy on smooth tarmac every day of the week
