Thanks for the positive comments all.

Took the VTR out for the day yesterday (after finally getting around to checking my tyre pressures and finding them ~15 psi down on both - oops!). Anyway, did 220 miles to Devils Bridge, Kirkby Stephen, Penrith, Hartside Top (Alston), and back via TOB. Some new (to me) epic roads, and I'm properly pleased with the bike - it's everything I expected/hoped. And only really became noticably uncomfortable after 150 miles or so :)

Superb mate! Looks like you got a good'un. Want one of these one day, meant to be very aggressive compared to the Mille.

    Future classic for sure.

    Enjoy!

See the two of your bike are out at play, what did the temp insurance cost after all?

I haven't ridden a Mille, but the SP-1 is pretty subdued and silky smooth (for a V twin) upto about 6k, and then quite violently rockets to the redline at 10k. It's really quite deceptive as you don't realise just how much speed it gains so quickly when you open it up it in the upper revs. It's certainly the most high rev happy twin I've experienced. I had a go on Tom's Tuono the other day though and that seems to be very well sorted and an absolute hoot however you ride it, and probably shows how much scope you have to fettle with the Aprilia twins.

Ian: He finally got a quote from dayrider, but it was £35 fully comp with £1000 excess on the bike, AND on third party damage. The whole scheme is is licence to print money. Instead, we went for TPO on an ebike PAYG monthly policy for the same price, and he regained a lot of confidence and skill very quickly and happily had no problems at all on the day. Means we can go for a few more runs now, and I think he's after a Speed Triple :D (loved the blade but prefers sit up naked bikes - used to own Fazer/Bandits).
