I can get the sump off and cleaned up for Monday no problem. I'll have to take the day off work but at least I'll know it is sorted.

At the moment it is PTFE & Silicone holding it....let the engine warm up to 80C and no leaks so I think its safe enough to ride.

I'd replace the sump but apparently that would be in the triple digits?! I thought sumps were cheap.

most parts will be at a premium. good money to be made from dealers selling parts.
    but some are surprisingly cheap.
i bought a pair of brand new mirrors from a ktm dealer for £32.
a pair of new indicators are £24.
but then you see things like a battery that costs £60 anywhere else, from ktm its £180!

    this got me thinking..................
a brand new superduke retails at about £8k - £9k
i had a look to see how much it would cost to buy every part needed to build a new engine / gearbox.
for almost all the bits (i reckon there was at least another grands worth of bits they dont list the price for)..........you would need to spend £15,768 !!!!!!!!!!

I'm wondering if the R6 uses the same engine as I've heard...then a sump might be easier to find.

do yamaha not have an online micro fiche for the parts?
you can knock ktm all you like, but they have these on most dealers websites.
bloody ace they are for finding what parts your bike shares with others.

Yeah I found it. Can't find a pan though only in the USA for £75

If I could get one for £50 in the UK I'd jump on it but they're rare.

Drill a hole and lock wire it, should be alright if its not leaking with the ptfe.

I would replace the sump for sure. not worth messing about. hills or blacks should have one.

Performance Bikes did something similar about 20 years ago with a ZXR750, they worked out that to buy the bike in component parts would have been over £16k back then!

Sorting it in the week. Got stainless helicoil set, stainless o ring plug, stud lock for the insert etc, pro job, wont strip again and wont leak.
Ive done compressors and receivers and tested them to over 300 bar and not had one fail yet.

    No biggy.

almost tried to buy every part for a superduke engine!
the shopping cart still had over 500 items in it from my bored night last week.
i just clicked on the part and went straight to the checkout.
i had to delete every fuckin one.

There's a motorcycle engineering workshop in the I dust rial estate just off the rainford bypass, (st.helens/rainford way). A guy called Mike owns it. He helicopter my sump and a few other bits as parts for mine are rarer than a good looking nun. Did a too job and it's £10 per helicoil. I'll send you his details in a mo.

Dropping the pan tomorrow morning so should be sorted soon.

To be fair I've done 500 miles without any issues but I want it sorted once and for all otherwise I'll be PTFE'ing every oil change lol
