Got a text tonight

Got a text tonight “calling” this forum for some on-line posts that went on this afternoon.

It kinda niggled me a bit, so excuse me if I let off some steam.

I just want to redress the situation and point out what’s great about this forum.

Last year this forum saw tragedy and the reaction from the forum administration was exemplary. The forum was closed for 3 or so days to make a point the matter was to be taken seriously and then it was communicated that the events leading to the tragedy were singled out as “taboo”. No on-line autopsy. No public berating. Just, “This topic will not be discussed”.

This afternoon’s episode has been taken behind closed doors also. Again, no public berating or on-line discourse.
Whenever a group of people from diverse back grounds and life style come together there will be friction, creating social heat and the occasion boil over. These out-bursts shame only the individuals involved. The forum as a whole may be tarnished, but that can be polished out in time. But this forum’s real strength shines at these times as the quiet enforcement of the administrative team Paul has put in place to moderate matters comes into play and competently matters are dissolved.

It is my confidence in Paul’s team that leads me to reside here on this forum, rather than on others I have frequented. Good job guys!

thanks Cab ..some nice positive words there . thank you.

In relation to the tragedy you mention , that was locked out for reasons that not many people at that time knew how it had happened , so it was thought best to lock it out to stop silly speculation and upset further those that were Grieving

the incident today was and is being discussed. Out of the Mods Lee and Myself are the most frequent on here .As it was today neither of us were on till late PM , then we saw the Fracas evolving . I wiped out a lot of the unnecessary crap but left a couple of posts that were public , one being an apology. Lee Locked the thread and We then saw fit to delete it.

We dont just jump in feet first and act like little hitlers , we watch and moderate as we see fit, we even join in the banter during most threads.

Ive met some superb folk on here , some still here some have left for reasons know to themselves .

As you say everyone has different personalities and come from different walks of life ..this forum has a hell of a lot of members with one thing in common ….BIKES…and thats what we need to discuss more

    ride safe peeps

i'm toying with the idea of quoting the original message and changing it to something on the lines of...

...but don't know if i should as this is a bit of a sensible thread:whistle:

I personally think things should be left posted. Were all adults, even though some don't act it. Deleting posts, banning members, it just pisses the offending person off and causes them to start trolling. That's my two cents...

Thanks Bloke. I nearly responded to her post constructively challenging it. Your comment quote saved me.

I know what you're saying but there are quite specific rules that everyone explicitly accepted and agreed to be bound by when they were implemented following the utter clusterf**k that happened as a result of another person's disputes with certain members being similarly dragged onto the forum.

The rules themselves carry predefined sanctions by way of warning points (quantity and duration) and a member's suspension/temporary ban/permanent ban is then dictated automatically by the Warning System. Mods/admin make no "decision" to ban - we simply click the relevant button that identifies the prohibited behaviour being engaged in and the system does the rest.

That ensures that everyone gets treated equally.

The two members involved were openly threatening and abusing each other - end of story. The history behind it or the off-forum happenings are irrelevant to NWB - as has been explained before, moderation on the forum is only based on what has happened on the forum. Forum moderation will not be undertaken for activity/issues off-forum.

Two members kicked off and posted objectively unacceptable material that breached the rules they have both agreed to be bound by. The posts were removed and appropriate predefined sanctions applied. No judgement is or was made of the surrounding events or circumstances as they appear to have happened outside of this forum.

    Cabernet, I don't think I have read a more staff-arse-licking post ever.
And to use Benny kicking it to gain favour with other people, says more about you than you understand.

Actually, it's disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Arse licking or vote of confidence are one and the same only divided by perspective. Either way, guilty as charged.

An excellent description of MODERATION rather than DICTATION. And a clear and sensible description and explanation of the way things work and are dealt with.

I'm new to this forum folks so don't know about what has gone on before - but am obviously saddened to hear you've gone through bad times too.

In terms of moderation, I was a mod on a national specific bike model forum - it used to be great but got turned to trash by half a dozen people who just posted utter sh*te on it - one guy even has 4-5 alias' and has ruined it - the mods there just don't bother keeping a handle on it and now it has no credibility.

This forum seems to have a good mix of banter and real world motorcycle conversation but best of all everyone is fairly local and you have at least a chance of meeting up.

A bit of modding is good in my view otherwise the free platforms that certain people just take for granted, eventually just disappear ....
