02 do some good sim only deals but its contract again.. I use a lot of data though so it works out cheaper for me than p&g

I was on GiffGaff for a few months while I waited for a new phone to take my attention. Can't fault them! I had the £12 4G goodybag with 3GB data usage and never used more than that. Never had any issues with them. I only left then as I got a contract with 3

It's a good business model and no-nonsense from a customer point of view.

However, in my experience (and from others I know on the network), the data speeds often seemed very limited compared with a standard O2 SIM. I suspect that O2 reserve the bandwidth for their direct customers when there is high demand and limited capacity in an area. That issue probably also goes for other virtual operators using the O2 network.

In terms of coverage and data, EE is probably the best network overall. It's best to go direct with them if you do, as (last time I checked) you won't get 4G via any of their virtual network operators (i.e. T-Mobile, Virgin).

Three is also very good for data, but their customer service is particularly poor in my experience. But if you're a relatively light user, then their 3-2-1 tariff is very good value. A friend of mine uses this and a tenner usually lasts 7-8 weeks!

Having said all that, you don't have much to lose trying giffgaff. It's probably the best value offering (because they have very limited overheads), and particularly flexible in terms of moving up/down goodybags. If it works for you, in your area, then that's all that matters really.

My talk mobile phone on contract, has no service up the Horseshoe Pass, so I got a sim only from giffgaff for the spare phone. No service at the Ponderosa with that either or at home (Wirral) . I am going to end up with a pocket full of sim cards to get one that works up there. So giffgaff no good for what I need.

I found Orange reception disappointing in St Helens, Warrington and most places I travelled. I had to buy myself out of my contract with them, hence never again.
I've also heard that February 2015 is when Orange Wednesday's will cease, is there any truth in the rumour?
