my bike didnt start the other day so took it off put it on my optimate, came back good. did the multimeter thing on the battery still good. put it back on the bike and checked voltage at 5000 rpm still good getting around 14.5v give or take. So im thinking my commute is a mere 5-8 miles dependent on the route I take and I dont get much over 4,000 rpm in that time. Also I have the lights which are now always on and the alarm which is a cheapo one of ebay. Is it likely im loosing more charge over time than the generator is putting back in on these short journeys and other factors?
Ditto , they have lifespan of 5 yrs tops, mine did Reg/rec in. Battery duff aski for too much Current, would discharge when headlights on, but showing 14.50v normally.
Just this year changed the battery on my Guzzi V11 for the fist time. It is a 2003 model. I have the same problem on my Breva. 2.5 miles to work with AHO headlights and the cold mornings take there toll. Take the long way home and it's fine the following morning. Check you fluid level in the battery if it is not sealed. +1
battery's not that old, maybe a year no more than 18 months, i think the alarm could well be the issue. ive reconnected it all for now but if it goes dead in the next week or so ill take it off. the bikes had a new reg/rec too so hoping its just the alarm coupled with the short journeys. ill do the longer route the whole 8 mile lol.
will check tomorrow, but off the top of my head i cant remember seeing a label on it when it was off and charging. It wasn't the cheapest but again not the top of the range either. probably Aldi
think its one of these: CTX9-BS Sealed MF Battery http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB-...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item20bf79c3df
if it's a cheapy one don't be surprised if it's dead also cheap/most alarms are a pain in the ass on bikes!!
i got it just to make a noise when its left at work but its fairly secure where i am so may well just ditch it. ill get a better one when ive got a better bike ha
+1 for the alarm had a Cyclone C11 alarm on the VFR. Worked great until I left the bike for a few weeks as I had the new car. Came to use the bike and it was so dead, the clock didn't even show... One new battery later an all was well... for a week. |Disconnected the alarm and its not skipped a beat. Funnily enough, I've also noticed it hasn't conked out when going back to idle?
yeah defo the Alarm terrible for draining batteries ……..if you have notified the insurance you have an alarm and remove it !!!! well you know what they are like
looks like alarms are a bit pants then! will disconect this weekend i think for what its worth. thanks guys
Or do what I did and disconnect it from the battery... The alarm is all there, just disconnected "The thieving buggers must've disconnected it."
Simple check on the alarm would be to bridge it's power supply wiring on the earth side and stick a multimeter on the positive to check what current it uses. That will definitely clarify that issue.
