Im looking to change the tyres on the tuono from metzeler sportec M1's to something a bit more suited to the uk winter ie sports touring like the metzeler Z8 or bridgestone T30 Does anyone have any experience of either tyre or any other tyres to recommend? Cheers Jimmy
Bridgestones Are awful. I really like the pirelli angel st/gt really grippy astounding in the wet a even did a couple of track days on them. How about the rosso 2 they are meant to really good
I am really impressed with the Pilot Roads on the V11. Also got on well with the Pirelli Diablo Corsa. Not so impressed with Bridgestone Batlaxs. No experience with Conti, Dunlop, Avon or Maxxis.
My bridgestones have been perfect for me, only used on a chopper but the grip is still good, even in the wet, bit cheaper than some as well. But i don't think you could beat PR4's to be honest, not seen a bad review yet!
Well the bridgestones on my vfr400 are great albeit a very different tyre and bike, i thought that seeing as ron haslam race school use the T30 for trackdays they must be fairly grippy and durable?
In general had lots of different ones they always feel vague. I switched to pirelli a couple of years back and the difference is staggering
plus one on PR4s jimmy ……..bridgestones are a big sponsor of the Ron Haslam Sch …..so he has to use there tyres….if Pirelli were the cash backers he would be using them
Tyre advice always makes me chuckle. For the majority, whatever tyre they are currently using is by far the greatest ever. Most are wrong (unless they are on the dunlops I use...)
Avon Storm... Use them on my Aprilia, good in all weather, decent millage, and did a track day on them too Agree with Lee though, lots of opinions is all really... think a lot of it comes down to your riding style and the confidence they give you - personally I never buy anything other than Avon anymore And agree with Dave about the Ron Haslam thing, I'm sure the tyres are good but it's a sponsorship / business arrangement - this is the second or third time I've heard 'they must be good because Ron Haslam....' So it's obviously working for them
Until the scotland trip i would have recommended the avon storms myself but found them to be a bit vague on the front when really pushing on. Perfect for normal everyday riding in all conditions and excelled in the wet. Just want something different, and to try a different tyre/brand to compare for future reference. Im leaning towards the metzeler Z8 mainly cause it's already got Metzeler M1's on and they feel good so far
It's strange that as I find them extremely planted... On Cadwell they were melting by the end of the day and gave nothing but confidence, guess we have a different riding style... Best to go with what gives you confidence
is it only me ,never noticed any difference what ever tyre ive had on ,never losted the rear end, had a vague frnt ,had them spin in the cold,never changed pressures to suit conditions or speeds ,i am a fu*&in dullard ,been ridin 35 yrs not got a clue, ......but on the millie gen 1 ive got the maxxis never had a problem with them wet or dry ,now you wont get a get more technical review than that.....
I've only Noticed a difference since I started using supercorsa's. I run them all summer last year and the same set through winter without a problem, replaced with some new scrubs before the sale and the bike still has no issues grip wise (reports the new owner) The Nelli is running corsa' but the back is significantly worn and does spin up when cold and into 2nd/3rd when wet with very little power but after 2mile or so are perfectly planted. I'll be replacing them with some Maxxis diamond tyres, they are supposedly twin compound and probably last a little longer as I dont get out that much any more :,(
Managed to buy a new rear the same as whats fitted now for all of £45 on good old ebay so will just get that fitted for now as the front looks brand new anyways. just need somewhere to fit it now...... suggestions anyone?
have a go yourself with some bits of wood and cable ties? if i could do it, anybody can haha. it was actually pretty simple once you figure out a method of seating a bead. i used fairy liquid, a bicycle track pump and the mother to pump it up cos im lazy and she needed exercise haha. just had a new set of pr3's turn up so ill be doing this again with the same method. failing that, i think SRT motorcycles is close to you. never been there myself though, or perhaps marriott motorcycles?
