An excellent route over that way is ---- from devils bridge head up the A683 to Sedbergh then the A684 over to Hawes. Get a brew in Hawes and head back towards Ingleton down the B6255 for about 12 mile and take a left at the Viaduct onto the B6479 past Pen-Y-Ghent to settle. That road to Settle is a 12mile roller coaster, and ranks as one of my favourite roads ever, infact RobJ described these roads as EPIC. From Settle follow the A65 to long preston then down to gisburn From there find your way home. I will be organising a Chippy Tea run to Hawes in the summer, and we will definately be going on the Pen-Y-ghent road
Have a look on Google Maps for this route, a lot is unclassified roads, but they're nice and quiet. A6 North of Garstang turn right onto WHAMS LANE, (just before Jnc 33 M6) Follow onto BAY HORSE ROAD and onto RIGG LANE. Then POSTEM GATE ROAD to QUERNMORE ROAD and follow this to CATON and join the A683 to take you to Devils Bridge and then follow the above route. Just past CATON there's a great tea stop on the right at Bull Beck!!!
would have loved to have joined in with this one mike but i promised daz i would help out with the collection for the air ambulance this weekend. some great roads up there.
funnily enough i had a trundle round the lakes today and came back down the a595 from whitehaven and down to milnthorpe, BLOODY FANTASTIC ROAD and i would say the most challenging road i've ever been along. well worth a try.
Thats like askin if the pope is catholic. I lived in lancaster for the first 18 yrs of my life. Some fantastic roads up there ! If its the same road im thinkin of it really is EPIC ... the first time i went up there with my mate was the first and the last time i ever had a sportsbike with both wheels off the ground. I only know it as clitheroe - hawes run And like mentioned before, Quernmore has a brilliant road (i call the rollercoaster road) from Quernmore crossroad heading south, just gotta be careful of farm entrances / tractors and the occasional horse (normal country stuff) Might organise a run up there one day in the next few months if anyone be up for it. Prob be a mid week one though
