This is a copy and paste of an e-mail I've received. I obviously don't know what everyone's personal view is on this - my view is that it has a real chance (and in my opinion high likelihood) of causing environmental damage, damage to properties (which will affect house prices and salability) and the very real potential to affect peoples health over the long term, for what is realistically a very short term benefit - I wish these companies would spend their efforts and resources into renewable energy! Trying to 'fix' the fossil fuel dependancy problem by sourcing more fossil fuel seems a bit stupid. I think regardless of if you're pro or anti fracking, everyone must agree that any report containing detail and conclusions should be freely available so that everyone can make up their own mind. The following campaign talks about how reports are being censored - how can MP's (or anyone) really make the right decision without having all the information? If you agree please sign, and forward onto your friends and family... It doesn't appear to need many more signatures, so your involvement really will make a difference. Needless to say I've signed it If you want more information please do Google it or feel free to pm me for some links ____________________________________ The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has heavily censored the only public version of the Government’s report ‘Shale Gas Rural Economy Impacts’. Although the Government has repeatedly said 'the public should be given all the facts’, this report was redacted 63 times, including the section on how fracking could affect house prices and local services. DEFRA claim this was best for ‘public interest’. Within the next couple of weeks MPs will vote on the Infrastructure Bill, which proposes controversial changes to our Trespass Laws that will erode our land rights, and pave the way for fracking. Two MPs from David Cameron's own party have urged the Prime Minister to release the report in full. Other MPs have also asked to see the complete report, yet still it remains redacted. It’s crucial that what’s hidden in this report is released before the Infrastructure Bill is finally voted on in Parliament, so that MPs can properly understand impacts that fracking will have on our house prices and our communities. Please join us in telling David Cameron, "stop the cover up" by adding your name to our petition calling for him to release the Government ‘Shale Gas Rural Economy Impacts' report in full before MPs are asked to vote on the contentious Infrastructure Bill. We must act now as the contents of Defra’s censored report on fracking will impact how MPs vote on the Infrastructure Bill in just two weeks. Please sign here and help us make this petition count: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/stop-the-fracking-cover-up-by-defra Please forward this email to a friend and after signing the petition, share it with your followers on Facebook and Twitter. We all deserve to see the censored material in this important document that our government is keeping from us. Thanks for your support, The Talk Fracking Team TalkFracking.org
If you don't agree, then you should sign? Its about not hiding and censoring the research into it. It's now been proven to have caused quakes in the U.S as well.
Fracking ell ! I was sent a copy of this few days back too…I fracking signed it straight-a-fracking-way
Eh, I'm kinda on the fence about fracking, but I'll sign so the information we get is 100% true just so people like my self can decide.
My own opinion is its a process that needs to happen. Its only new to us, the process has been around since the 1940's. If correctly regulated I have zero problem with it.
Then i feel that we should set up another petition but this one to have the uk moved to a fault line. We brits need something new to moan about.
It did happen here, when they were in the exploratory stages just outside Blackpool they caused an earthquake that did damage property Why does it need to happen? Once chemicals leak into our water sources that ain't getting sorted... I don't feel it'll be properly regulated... very simplified but they drill down, fill the hole with a chemical mix and sand at extremely high pressure, let the gas and some of the chemical liquid flow back up, once they're done they cap it and go... There are still chemicals down there and no responsibility if there are cracks or damages which could cause the chemicals to get into the water supply... It's horrific... If there is an earth quake or accident near a capped well there is nothing to stop it failing... How long do they last? it's all for such a short term benefit... Totally not worth the risk in my opinion Read up on fracking, plenty to moan about already I assure you
I'm afraid it's not just scare tactics ... I hope so but I don't think so Unfortunately there is a shed load of money involved, so that's the government and media on their side
