As Kez said, make sure their not tat. Y'know, the ones made of cheese. Some people sell ones that crack very easily because the compound is too hard. I've always an Italian brand. Can't remember the name but I'm sure I can get it. They cost a little more, £13 IIRC but lasted for ages when I had the zx6r

hiya mark ya better taking the forks to a garage mate because taking ya forks apart ya self can be messy and hard i think if u take them in it could cost 100pounds maybe more
