Get the stanchion re coated and do the seals yourself, should be less than 100 all in

I'll just have to figure out a way to do this myself as I dont have that much cash right now. Probably a bodge araldite epoxy, wet and dry job and then change the fork seals. Will try and use scissor jacks and wood under the exhaust headers to prop the bike up. See how it goes.

Just remember tho a bodge job can make things worse.

If I was you I'd leave it until you can get it done properly. It's a very important part of your bike.

I am busy the next couple of days at work so there wont be any progress on this matter. I might end up getting them done by a mechanic if I can get overtime. The eventual decision between doing it myself or by a mechanic would depend on how much money I have available. I would ask if a biker would be able to give me a hand with this in manchester but I dont know any bikers other than the school i did my DAS with.

Thanks for the pikey stand advice guys. Job done for £40 and learnt a new skill. However I would pay someone to do this job next time, it is very messy. The damper rod was a pain to get out even with a holder. I may need a new stanchion at some point because the old seal was ripped to shreds inside due to the pitting. Epoxy resin and sanding for two hours has got it smooth, however dont know how long it will last. If it lasts over winter I'd be happy.
