For the life of me i cant get rid of this bloody air lock in my coolant system tried everything :-

    Topped rad up, check
Reservoir bottle as high as possible "taped to mirror" , check
    ran until warm, check
fan not kicking in???, hot wired fan, check
    fitted new thermostat, check
    removed new thermostat, check
Topped up reservoir bottle and watched for ickle bubbles, check

    outcome....

Running hot header tank bubbling when i turn engine off and slight water leak from an unknown hose " by the time i get my lid off steam and hissing has stopped"

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Pipes connected correctly, and nipped up tight?

but what you are describing there is the same symptoms of a popped head gasket on a zxr400/750
mine went, exactly the same happening. the cooling system was pressurising. coolant getting hot enough to become steam.
Pete @ otc racing in widnes sorted mine, luckily the head didnt need a skim.

hope you aint got the same problem dude.

I suspected the head gasket but was trying to convince myself otherwise. cheapest gasket set on fleabay is £162 delivered or head gasket £50 from the states :(

Yeah i tried that convincing my self thing, but had to bite the bullet.

Get on the blower to Cradley Kawasaki @ http://www.cradleykawasaki.co.uk/

They delivered mine for the zxr, epic emergency next day delivery for about 20 quid i think it was.

Join up to zxrworld.co.uk and you get 10% discount on all orders @ Cradley when you state you are a member there.

I would sat do a compression test on the pots first before you say a head gasket that will tell you if its gone or not.

I had a carb heatet pipe split on me.
    I bled mine :
1 top up rad to top, slowly.
2 top up expansion bottle to max.
3 let it run for 5 mins with a couple of blips of the throttle no higher than about 4-5,000.
4 turn off and let it settle a minute.
5 slowly undo rad cap and check level of rad and expansion bottle.
Repeated it twice then mine was fine.
    HTH.

The gasket can go between the water jacket on the engine meaning that you would not have any compression problems nor would you have any performance issues.

Have you tried leaning the bike right over with the help of another as this can dislodge any air lock within the system.

Doesnt sound like head gasket to me.

When I fill up the coolant system on the zx7r, I do it very slowly and rock the bike from left to right as far as I can lean it. All the air bubbles come out easily.

Also check you havent kinked the lines around the coolant expansion tank and check the back of the coolant expansion tank for cracks. If you have over tightened it, it cracks very easily causing the above problems

managed to get a look at it before when i pulled up at home the water/steam is coming from the header tank over flow pipe when it starts to bubble up so dont think its a serious issue just need to try the lowering down to the left and right when filling it up trick an i reckon job should be a goodun

i hope it is just an airlock.
My HG had popped buy #2 and suffered the same.
I had drained the system so many times and never had an air lock.

But like i said, i hope it just an airlock.

no trace of oil in the water etc so all being well just the mother of all air locks

Nor did mine. The tell tail sign is a steady stream of bubbles under the rad cap.
Start the bike and pull the rad cap and watch.

Always worth giving all the large hoses a hard and fast squeezing until there are no more bubbles in the header tank. Also, check the rad cap just in case the rubberr seal has perished or the spring has gone. Hope this helps.

I think the only way you would be certain is to do a pressure test on the cooling system, then you'd know for sure mate :)

well i decided to strip the water pump off the other day to find the cam gear locators angled and sheared :banghead: also decided to strip the head off while i was there and the gasket was goosed aswell so new head gasket and pump on there way then once filter and oil changed and fresh coolant in the 7r should be good to go for many miles to come

If you can, get a couple of mm skimmed form the head. It will increase compression and give you a little bit more ooomph :D
