The 1983 Honda Melody 50cc scoot that I got from a mate in Manc last year has been fun, but not running to well. Got a 1980 one from a guy i know a couple of weeks back that had all the spare parts i need Very Happy The plan is to replace all the bits that need it, get it running well and then complete strip and start on the chav bling. So far i have pulled the whole front end from the 1980 and boshed it in the 1983. Steering, suspension and front braking are definitely much better. Pulled the cylinder from the 1980 and the 1983 and i have the best bits from the 2 sitting in a saucepan of coca-cola cos i cant be arsed going out to get some costic soda. From what ive heard this will help lift some of the carbon and other gunk. The piston in the 1983 might get pulled for a decoke, ill make my mind up later. The oil pump was pulled from the 1980 and stuck in the 1983, so now there is no need for me to make petroil. I might put some pics up when i start the strip and bling
You can make them go like f*ck as there restricted, if I remember rightly theres a restrictor plate between the intake manifold & the jug. Also polish all the ports to a mirror finish, intake & exhaust. Check for restrictors in the exhaust or better still buy a better pipe & stick a k & n filter on it & get some bigger jets in the carb. Should get it up to 50mph. Oh and take the shopping basket off the front that saves about 2kg lmfao!!!
Or big bore kit time http://www.patternparts.net/p-Honda_NT_50_Big_Bore_Kit_(60cc)_FGH_MelodyVision_85_92-10132.aspx
yeh. fit the big bore and open up the port at the back as wide as you can, (at least 25mm) as well as matching it up on the crankcase. the transfer ports on the side, make sure they go all the way down to the piston crown at bdc, widen them as much as you can but dont make them higher or it will bog down at low revs. get a stick of threaded bar, cut a slot in it and stick grinding paper in it & make a flexy grinder, you can get right into the ports. widen the exhaust port and lift it 2mm with a knife edge. open up the bore of the carb right to the diameter of the slider and polish it up inside. the cylinder head has quite a step on it - you can remove all of it and it makes the motor very pokey lol. another easy mod is chamfer the bottom of the piston skirt to a razor edge. if you are going as far as removing the crank, presoak some winecorks in 2 stroke oil & hammer them into the balancing holes in the crank, trim off the excess with a stanley blade (doesnt affect the balance much) the end can is very important... you need the downpipe as short as humanly possible and bin the original silencer, fit a expanny off a better scooter. take it up to 65-70cc and do all the above and it will fly! oh and if you have a race, add a litre of model aeroplane fuel (ether) in the tank - it will go like stink lol (same with any 2 stroke)
Infact why dont we all get shitty old scooters, tune em to the max and have a competition or summat?? Martin your helping me tune mine!! Anyone game?
be funny as fk loads of nwb turning up for a track day on rev n rips!!! thatd be a fkin scream lol 20 min lap times, 1 lap per session
They can be bought for less than £100 and Ive had a mega idea........ http://www.northwestbikers.net/forum/index.php?/topic/9107-2011-scooter-challenge-to-raise-money-for-the-air-ambulance/ :hijack:
Ebay & Quids in but I reckon if you tap up your local breakers and tell them that its for charity ya never know!!!
Yeah it will just strip it an rebuild it with some new bearings etc, besides we will have support vehicle for breakdowns & terminals lol
Anyways, p*ss off out of my thread. You have your own now. FKIN LOLZ! Gonna go get some caustic soda 2moz cos the coca-cola aint doing sh*t!
Right guys, Swiss has brought back my zorst after de-coking, welding a small hole and giving it a re-spray. Went to pop the other cylinder back on (the one from the spare lump) and it is a couple of thou smaller. Need a re-bore to make it slightly larger...... watch this space.
