My mate has a b1h that he thinks has dropped a couple of valves. I'm thinking of getting it off him cheap and sorting it my self. Know I'm no mechanic like but does anyone know if u need specialist tools?? I wouldn't of thought u do I'm just after a heads up b4 I buy
i think the only special tool youd need is a valve spring compressor other than that it would be standard tools
Depending on how far your stripping the engine re damage you might also need a puller to remove the flywheel, make sure your work area is nice and clean. Little telescopic magnets come in handy too plus some trays/bags labeled up to store your parts in.
As far as I know atm it's just a bent valve but I've asked him to look closer see if it might of snapped off and gone into the piston. And cheers. Will pick em up if I go for it. I'm also thinking of getting higher compression pistons while I'm there... Who knows more about the compression side of things??
Well I have looked into it but getting diff numbers and ratios all over the shot. I think the stock is 12.8.1 but higher compression seems to need boring out???
Easiest way is using a thinner head gasket or by having the head skimmed Have a read through this. http://www.visordown.com/workshop/understanding-compression-ratios/15453.html
That's best bit of advice to start remember once I rebuilt a car engine smart arse me put all head stuff in one box all bottom end in another needless to say they never went back were they came out and I was 12 bolts lighter but it still ran lol Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
the bit tomo posted is only explaining cr, have a read up on actually calculating them deck height, compressed gasket volume, top ring land, chamber volume and a few more bits as well and then a couple of dry builds to make sure you've got everything spot on. plus get it wrong and you can kill a nice new engine or end up with something that's gutless.
I've got all that shit in a text book somewhere mate, I did learn it a long time ago but as the saying goes "you don't use it you loose it" haha
unless you buy off the shelf pistons you need to measure it all yourself, you could take sizes etc as read but not really the best way to do it. i hate doing them, got to admit haven't done one for years but always used to sit down with a pen and piece of paper and write everything down
