basically, went to ride to work this morning, and the bandit seems to be down on power. at about 5 and a half/6 revs, the bike jutters like it's running out of fuel. it still accelerates, just no-where near as fast as it should and same goes for higher up the rev range What you reckon this could be?
well I've just re-fueled when i got to work, using my usual station, but my last tank was from some random place "/
when was it last seviced if i am not mistaken thats about the time it goes from pilot to main jet so it could be a little bit of dirt in the bowl so it could be worth it but dont touch any settings on the carbs
well it's due it's MOT beginning of June, I'll probably get it serviced when I replace the rear tyre beginning of next month "/
Could be carb icing mate, especially if it's early in the mornings, my bandit was a bugger for it! Some of the later bandits were fitted with the carb heaters, I've got some photos of some bandit carbs stripped down if they're any use to you?
leave the carbs tbh. go on any american site and theyve always got the carbs off lol but theyre still on leaded fuel. over here we have excellent fuels with aded ethanol which really does a good job of keeping the carbs & lines clear. *does anyone remember that yellow sulphur shite that used to settle in the bowls? dont be persuaded to use redex or any other so called engine cleaner!!!!! its worth checking if it has a fuel filter fitted and if it has just change it for the sake of a few quids. pop the plugs out, if there iridiums, replace them after 5-8k check the air filter isnt mingin or wet. do all this before touching the carbs. - if you take them off you will just waste time and probably end up with it running worse than it is now. lose carb balance etc... if all else fails, then before you take the carbs off, check the vacuum lines are ok, check the slide diaphragms are ok & not split / perished. you may find theres a small drain hole in the cyl head to allow rainwater to drain from the plug recess - check theyre clear run out all the old fuel and try fresh/
added ethanol is bull sh*t hhahaha there is too much my plastic tank grow's with the sh*t i will only run super now after the state of my tank
Could be plugs like mart says, think they're on 9ek's, if they're fouled don't bother cleaning them with a wire brush/emery paper burn the carbon of with a blow torch or just replace. Afaik, they're is no drain off for trapped water but might be wrong I'm sure I've got a set of un fouled spares here if you'd like them but you'll have to pick them up? This is what bandit 600 carbs look like stripped down, if you ain't done owt like this before don't bother, bandit carbs are a bitch to get back onto the rubbers properly, use a heat gun to warm the rubbers and a smear of grease, martins right about you loosing balance ect, best to only do this after you've checked everything else mate All to easy to over look the obvious, could be sh*t fuel, blockage or a trapped pipe ;D That's how you clean jets ect in an ultrasonic bath, ffs never go near them with a wire brush or sandpaper!! Always helps if you note down how many turns you have on your pilot jets before you take them out, can you see it top r/h side? These were well out Skeg in the float bowls, jets and needles were caked in it too, the tank was also full of shite Finished, notice the carb heater wires at the bottom? One was broke off and had to be repaired, hope you found these useful, if you do decide to do this make sure your work surface is spotless!
If its carb icing you should be able to tell by pulling over when it starts giving you trouble, wait a few mins then set off again. should allow a bit of warmth to soak through. This should identify/discard the carb icing theory. Like said jets maybe, especially if its been parked for a while but it'd normally do this as soon as you start using it again, not after its been used a while Do simple/cheap checks first, like mentioned air filter/fuel filter/plugs. Was it wet that day?
I had a similar problem with my R1,it was sluggish and holding back.Took it back to the dealers and they said it could be the throttle sensor so they had a look and it wasnt that....guess what,it was the air filter. They put a new one in as the other one was very dirty and it was brilliant, back to its raw power and has been since. That was last year btw.Good luck mate.
tbf, the problem still persists today. I had a look at my exhaust and that was blowing, but fixed that now.
