Chains

    How can i check my chain is still ok also ive herd about soaking it in motor oil. Its got abit of surface rust on it .

    I clean my chain with muck off degreaser clean it then spray loads of wd40 on it leave it 10 mins then re clean with the muck off using tooth brush then spray with Castrol racing chain lube comes up nice and gold for all of 3 hours lol

    I will do its just while i take it out ive just synced the carbs myself and im iching to see the difference lol
    Things to do :
    New oil + filter
    Air filter
    Chain
    Tank derusted and sealed
    And finally a black or red spray job
    Want to do it myself though pick your brains along the way lol

    My bike's shaft drive, so none of the above bothers me one bit! :lol:

    how very honest of you ;) lol.

    ive never understood shaft drive bikes. are there any advantages apart from being practically maintenance free?

    Advantages are reliability and almost maintenance free, disadvantages are weight, they sap power compared to a chain (but with 173bhp and 103lbs of torque I can live with that! :lol: ) and there's what's known as 'torque reaction' which takes a bit of getting used to, (but largely taken care of by BMW's paralever rear end).

    Mine isnt the £20 one lol. It was £60 is a heavy duty x ring one.
    The one I took off it was a renthal gold one but it had seized and the o rings perished.
    Guess I will be able to Comment on the quality / longetivity of this JT one in either a few years or if it fails lol

    No I don't think it said it was ognibene heavy duty chain and sprocket set if I remember
