What is the best stuff to clean yer chain with .I know everyone will do it different and wot do you put on after youve cleaned it .
I use paraffin mate, I take the wheel off and fill an old baking tray up, feed the chain through and clean it with an old paint brush. Then I get some rag and dry it so it's nice and clean, run it around the block a couple of times then lube it with rock oil chain lube, bit labour intensive like but I've had the same chain on for 2yrs now and it's hardly worn. I usually do this every 5/600 miles. Only replacing because the side plates are a bit corroded but I'll keep it for a spare. Scottoilers are a great bit of kit if you can get them set up right, I've got one here but I've never been able to get it set up proper on the cbr.
same as but use diesel. for chain lube ive been using an adhesive belt dressing which sticks like sh*t to a duvet, no fling.
I use paraffin too and a stiff nylon brush.....then dry etc.......never....NEVER do any work on ya chain while on a stand in gear with wheel spinning.. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242261
Rock oil degreaser and a nail brush, rinse off with the hose, dry and quick blat round the block to heat the chain up then coat with Wurth Dry Chain lube.. Job done..
m8 did that on his 50 - gripped the chain with a rag full of grease and it pulled his hand through the rear sprocket. made a right mess :S
It's horrific isn't it.....looking at it makes me involuntarily clench my fists to keep my pinkies safe.
works well but fk me its expensive. you're paying for the brand. do yourself a favour, go to your nearest arco & get a 5L tub of arco hard surface cleaner. it's just gone up to £8.35 for 5L but trust me it is THE BEST cleaner you can get/ works just as well diluted 50/50 with hot water. spray on with a pump sprayer, leave 5 mins and rinse off. awesome stuff.
I use kerosene in a pump sprayer then a old brush adjitate it then another dose of kerosene and wurth dry chain lube
Motul chain cleaner gets sprayed on. Toothbrush gets all the crap out of the joints in the chain. WD40 goes on to eliminate any excess grime and grease, then it gets wiped off - leaving a nice silver chain! Stick the bike in gear and let it run for a minute or two to warm the chain up, then it's Motul chain lube on the insides of the chain.
I use paraffin, cheap as chips from any DIY shop and a little goes a long way when used with an old paintbrush. Old sheet underneath the bike and then just load up the brush and lash on the chain. Cleans all the sheeite off in a few mins, then I brush on some old engine oil from previous oil changes, wipe down with a rag, set the Scottoiler and forget about it for another few hundred miles.
