Just a quick'n How often do you guys adjust your chain? and lube it? :S i find myself so motivated to strip my bike and wash it! but i don't want to over do it. the chain is looking nice, maybe a little slack? and maybe well oiled? but i have this thing about maybe lubing it every 2-3 weeks lol ... im obsessed i think
my self i just oil it after ive been out for a spin as the chain is warm as will take the oil better .. but thats the way i do things . also maybe once every 3 weeks i tooth busg it with wd40 and clean it as new .. them take as must oil off as i can then re strap it with putoline d x 11 which is a synthetic racing chain lude none fling formula from local bike shop £ 7. 34
I've not had to adjust my chain yet (2000 miles in....),and to be honest I'll be a bit scared when I come round to doing it so I'll get an experienced mate to help... I'm cleaning/lubing my chain every 500 miles, just with some spray cleaner and spray lube that were recommended to me in Hein Gericke.... honestly though, the sooner I need a new chain the sooner I can get a green one :shades: :shades:
It depends how often and when do you use it. I don't ride every day any more, but spray it with Wurth dry chain lube (top stuff) every 200 miles or so. I clean the chain every 500 miles using parafin, toothbrush and a piece of cloth. Wash it with water afterwards, dry and apply chain lube again. Chain looks like new. Also make sure your chain has the right tension otherwise you will shorten its life span considerably!
And your sprockets! Depends on the weather, when its raining i do it every couple of days. Summer - once a week
ah ok cool, thanks for the replies guys! ive got some standard chain lube here. ill just have to get something to clean the old stuff off. never really thought about doing that lmao
Something to be aware of when adjusting your chain is that the marks on the swingarm aren't always accurate. It's better to use a set of calipers.
I heard there should be about 3/4" play in the chain bestween where it hangs and when it touches the swing arm. When you sit in the bike. Thats the rule that I use. I lube clean and lube the chain everytime I wash the bike (so every week)
lube mine every monday morning before i set of for work ( ride 500 miles a week to work and back).. i check it every other day though just to be on the safe side.. adjustments probably about once a month on average.. ( about 2000 miles ).. last chain i had lasted well over 20000 miles though.. so must be working ok Mark
thats some decent mileage out of a chain that mark, it just goes to show if you take care of it, it will take care of you!!
do a Rochdale special and put chewing gum on your chain.. lasts about 3 rotations before you have to geta new chain.. Chavvy Rcohdalians
