For the first time in my working life I actually have holiday days to take so I intend to make up for missing last years Scotland Tour and get up there on the new Tiger. I am looking at a three or four day tour in either April or May. I am not bothering with B&B's , just taking a small tent and camping. My rough plan covers 800 miles but would also like to get to John O Groats so might end up over 1000 Anyone interested ?
Chris there are 16 of us going in August but we are doing B&B ..April and may might be a bit shit on the weather We went July last year and it was perfect one thing for sure you will have a fantastic time
Might just do August too. June and July are far too busy with Goodwood and the Grand Prix so April or May are by best options. I might even go over the Easter weekend which sounds stupid, but the roads up there can be extremely quiet even at Easter
be careful in April Chris,, ive been up there and seen big snowfalls over the tops , the north side of nevis still has snow on in june !!!! the higher up you go the worse it gets ...id say May earliest for bikes .... HAVING said that ....i went couple of years ago bank hols May and it was 22 degrees every day ...scorching..
Its Phil thats arranging it but as far as im aware its the 5th may for 5 nights, not 100% on the route yet but hey, its scotland, beautiful place, not too fussed if im honest, will admit though, i'm jealous of you roughing it! Do that in the peaks every few months, would be nice in scotland!
Did a three day Scotland trip last June 1000 miles in 3 days, had to miss Moffat loop as the others went home on AA trucks..
phil knows it way round up there , think his folks live on skye....you gotta visit there chris if not just for the road that takes you down to the ferry ...its a 45 mile race track of the highest pedigree , runs through forests, over cliff faces, alongside white beaches ...not a GATSO in sight after the first three miles ..
As the Winkmaster says there can still be lots of snow and ice round at that time of year, the good news is that the west side is usually ok, the Cairngorms are the worst so check conditions if you're heading through there before mid summer. I'm thinking of heading up there later in the year, planning a few days on Orkney to see the stone circles and burial chambers cos that stuff gives me a stiffy.
Although i was off on the date, its the 29th alm: You couldnt make it due to the tt if i remember correctly
