Dan Walsh If in doubt, flat out!

Just bought a Bandit 1200 K6.... I'm pretty sure the front discs are warped.

Can these by reground/thrown on a lathe or do I need to invest in some new discs? Even second hand ones??

    Thoughts?!

From what I'm aware brake discs have a minimum thickness before they need replaced, this should be stamped on it somewhere. You need to work out how much you would have to remove to make them straight again to see if this would go below the minimum thickness.

Unfortunately there really isn't much meat on motorcycle brake discs, so likely you won't have enough leeway to grind them straight. You'll likely need new discs.

bobins will be full of crud, clean them out and give them a whack with a hammer and you should be fine

Yes, check your bobbins, brakes and forks before shelling out good hard earned.

Do the bobbins then check the headstock bearings and fork bushes, these can show the same symptoms.
Get hold of a dial gauge to check the discs, failing that tape a soft pencil/chalk to the fork leg or caliper so it just touches the disc at a slight angle rotate the wheel and you should see an area where there is no mark.

If it is warped you can try the Benny Bodge method to straighten it. Take the disc off lay on a piece of flat timber then hit it with a hammer at the warped area, use a soft faced hammer pref a dead blow. Bit of practice and you'll be fine.;)

Strip and clean everything before buying new, bobbins will be the culprit more than likely

You'll feel the break leaver pulsing at low speed braking hand it will be difficult to come to a smooth progressive low speed stop. - just had this you can get some good disks at great prices off eBay I can send you a link if you want. And trust me I've tested them really tested them
