Sorry guys for the post and if it is not allowed so please admin take off if so.

Anyway I'm sat broken down waiting for pick up in my xsara picasso. I only have it for Mrs and kids. Engine management light came on then when I tried to get from work to Eccles it's cut out completely. I know how expensive these fault things can be when garages keep guessing and charging you every time. Haven't got a fault code yet so will update. But if anyone in the area does it for a living can you give me a shout. P.s I need a wee where is this pick up lol

thanks Mark think im sorted, this will make you laugh.
spent 4 hours all in all. took 2 and a half hours to turn up but then to be honest the lad was pretty good and new his stuff. He put the code reader on and said it was the fuel rail pressure sensor so i asked him to show me so i could replace. Now ive only had the car a year and done a service on it thats it! its just for the kids and mrs i have no interest in doing up a picasso lol. he shows me this sensor and i follow it round and find this "power box" stashed down the side of the engine on a tie wrap. Asked the guy and he said basically its a cheap ebay job to remap the car to push more fuel in to make it go faster. A cheaper version of putting it on a rolling road. I mean who trys to race rep a picasso hahhah. Anyway he said lets start there, he took it off did the code reader again and nothing lol all was great got home no issue and he followed me back to make sure. Cant believe it hadn't gone before. Im taking the kids to a farm in Blackburn today so that will test it.
So if it goes wrong I may have another post lol. Will invest in a code reader never used one but garages charge about £45 for a diagnostic so might as well.

cheap obd isn't worth a wank, don't care what anyone says about how good they think it is but it ain't!! IF it will even communicate with the vehicle at best you will only get generic P codes, for things like a misfire some won't even tie it down to what cylinder it is.

I got a £5 one off eBay and it works perfectly fine on my car with the MPG readouts, and found the fault with the Missus' Polo.

    Can't knock it at all.

the breakdown guy had a snap on one. must have cost a fortune it could tell you anything with the car including how many times the keys been put in! for whatever reason you would want to know lol. Ill take a look around and see whats recommended on obd readers the less i spend on the car the more i can get out on the bike:thumbsup:

Its a brilliant piece of kit, and not too expensive on eBay if you're going to use it a lot. It's not the most modern reader, we borrowed a snap on Solus recently and that was 1000 x better.

I ordered a cheap £30 one for a friend of mine who does car repair from his garage at home, for the majority of stuff he does it's great. But it wont read certain cars codes & do things like brake lights/airbag warning stuff.
