I am thinking of polishing some brushed alloy on my bonneville to a mirror finish, anyone had a go? Done some research and looks straiht forward using compound and buffing wheel.....
Fairly simple just be careful that no part of the buffing wheel other than the fabric touches the metal, be aware that you're going to get VERY dirty (as is everything nearby when the polishing compound flicks off everywhere) and remember - once polished you'll have to keep on top of it or it'll tarnish and look awful
It will only flick if you put too much on. On a 5-6" polishing pad to do a wing or a car door you only Need 4 pea size spots so that shows you how much product you need.
Well I was using Autosol and a Dremmel when I polished the frame on my RS125. I still get nightmares about it from time to time lol.
also note that if you decide to polish the engine casings the bike will probably overheat as shiny stuff doesnt loose the heat as well as matt & black finished stuff.
Started polishing bits tonight! Tried something small so the steel jubilee clips they look cool now using a buffer wheel on my bench grinder and red polishing compound. Wife thinks i am sad!
talking about RS 125's, i mirror finnished the whole frame and swing arm by hand! just using autosol and a cloth haha, it took me 3 days!
this took me three winters to finish,Like said little is more on the bigger parts you might find your bench grinder hasn't got the power to do the job,I ended up buying a bigger machine
